This is because the lungs are overinflated, and pushing the chest wall out.
Pink puffers learn to keep their lungs hyperinflated to keep the respiratory bronchioles
from collapsing, and this eventually changes the shape of the chest itself ("barrel chest",
"increased AP diameter", "increased total lung volume").
