description

Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and the representation of image data by a computer specifically with help from specialized graphic hardware and software. The interaction and understanding of computers and interpretation of data has been made easier because of computer graphics. Computer graphic development has had a significant impact on many types of media and have revolutionized animation, movies and the video game industry.

Overview• Introduction• History• Evolution• Images• Animation• Concepts and Principles• GPU• Applications• Conclusion

• The term computer graphics refers to "almost everything on computers that is not text or sound”

• Refers to creation, Storage and manipulation of pictures and drawing using a digital computer.

• Effective tool for presenting information.• Computer aided design.• Computer aided manufacturing.

What is Computer Graphics?

• Creation, Manipulation, and Storage of geometric objects (modelling) and their images (rendering).

• Display those images on screens or hardcopy devices• Image processing• Others: GUI, Haptics, Displays (VR) etc

• In 1960, William Fetters a graphic designer for Boeing Aircraft Co. proposed his 3-D structure of the human body. This structure was called “Boeing Man”.

William Fetters 1928 - 2002

He did so by drawing the 3-D structure of the human body, then scanning them to create images in a 2-D environment such as the computer screen.

In the same year General Electric launched a computer named “TX-2” specially designed for graphic generation.

This computer used “Motion Capture” to generate 3-D representation of moving objects like the human body.It also used a lightpen and a scanning pad to draw 3D structures.

Motion Capture is the process of recording movement onto a digital model like the TX-2.

In the early 1980s, the availability of bit-slice and 16-bit microprocessors started to revolutionise high resolution computer graphics terminals

3D graphics became more popular in the 1990s in gaming, multimedia and animation.

computer graphics have only become more detailed and realistic, due to more powerful graphics hardware and 3D modeling software.

Images

In common usage, an image or picture is an artefact, usually two-dimensional, that has a similar appearance to some subject - usually a physical object or a person.

Computer Animation

• Computer animation is the art of creating moving images via the use of computers.

• Computer animation is also referred to as CGI (Computer-generated imagery or computer-generated imaging), especially when used in films.

• Images are typically taken by devices such as cameras, mirrors, lenses, telescopes, microscopes, etc. Digital images include both vector images and raster images, but raster images are more commonly used.

• A Graphics Processing Unit or GPU is a dedicated graphics rendering device for a personal computer, workstation, or game console.

• It is of two types: a) Integrated b) Dedicated

Dedicated GPU Integrated GPU

• Graphics Driver is a collection of

application programs for handling tasks

related to multimedia,

especially game programming and video. For example

The Direct X.

EXAMPLES or APPLICATIONS OF

MODERN GRAPHICS

The world of computer graphics concentrate on reinforcement of performance and the better techniques to bring reality in its output.
