BAT reference document for Large Combustion PlantsJuly 2017
In the conclusion of the BREF documents are fixed for large combustion plants (anthracite and lignite, > 300 MWth) as yearly Associated Emission Levels (as BAT-AEL*) the following concentrations:

Coal < 1 - 2 < 1 - 4
Lignite < 1 - 4 < 1 - 7
The emissions should be determined by continuous monitoring.Continuous monitoring by Sorbent trap sampling can be used as an alternative!
⇒ For both, the US and the coming EU regulation it is necessary to have monitoring systems which are able to measure accurate in the range 1 – 5 µg/Nm3.

Maintenance interval: 6 Month, Time needed 4-6 h
Lifetime of catalyst: 1 year (depending on sample matrix)
Analyzer test and maintenance is easy:
Dust filter, dilution system and catalyst are easy accessible, filter & catalyst can be
changed without big effort and within a short time.
If needed, the probe can be purged without removal.
During dismantling of the converter the probe tube can stay at the stack, only the converter
module has to be moved.
The tubing inside of the sample line can be exchanged.
There is no very hot part, which needs to cool down before any service work can be started

Mercury Emission Measurement Methods
In several documents as e.g. US MATS, European BREF there are also mentioned Sorbent Trap Monitoring Systems (STMS) as alternative for Mercury Emission Monitoring
In the ENVEA group we have also such a system to offer as AMESA M.
33
By more and more countries, which sign and ratify the Minamata Convention, the necessary actions to reduce and therefore to monitor mercury emissions increase
According to the Guidelines for Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems published in
August 2019 by the Central Pollution Control Board of India, the continuous emission monitoring of Hg emissions has to be implemented in Power Plants.
The Emission Limit value is defined to 0,03 mg/Nm3
The SM-4 Hg-CEM system is suitable for this application
34
The SM-4 Hg-CEM system is suitable for this application
Due to the dilution directly by the sampling probe it is quite robust against aggresive flue
gas conditions
With the MATS rules in the USA and the future BREF documents in the EU also Long
Term Sampling can be used for an accurate determination of mercury emissions of mainly
power plants and cement kilns and also waste incinerators
We as envea have both technologies in our product range
We have also the experts to support you in your emission monitoring requirements
Thanks a lot for your attention !
