Eagle Voyage is an educational partnership between North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and Vance-Granville Community College. The partnership provides a pathway for students to move seamlessly from an associates degree into a bachelors degree program. VGCC provides classroom space and technology support, and NCCU provides a two-year course of study leading to a bachelors degree.

Participation in the Program:The program has been designed for students who have completed an Associates degrees in Arts, Science or Applied Science.
Admissions:Eagle Voyage students will complete an NCCU admissions application. Upon acceptance, students will be considered NCCU students.
Tuition Cost: Students will pay the Distance Education tuition rate, which is significantly lower than the rate for on-campus students.
Financial Aid:Students are eligible to apply for financial aid through the NCCU Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
Degree Completion: The Eagle Voyage format and course sequence will allow students to complete their degree at an accelerated rate.
Course Format:Students will complete courses in a hybrid or fully online format. Hybrid courses are taught in 8-week sessions, utilizing both face-to-face instruction along with an online learning management system. Fully online courses are taught in 4, 8 and 16-weeks with no face-to-face component.
Class Meetings:Eagle Voyage meets once or twice a week, depending on the program.
Faculty:All courses will be taught by NCCU faculty.
Advising:A Transfer Academic Advisor is housed on-site on the VGCC main campus.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE
The mission of the Department of Criminal Justice is to prepare students to become leaders, outstanding practitioners, scholars, and advocates for social justice in a diverse and global society. Curriculum and practice experiences challenge students to become critical and analytical consumers of information, advocates for social justice, and promote the administration of justice, crime prevention, and crime control in a diverse and global society. The curriculum through both classroom and field experience is designed to provide students with a familiarity of the criminal justice system, the theories underlying criminal behavior, and the research methodology required to analyze current criminal justice issues.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (Birth-Kindergarten)
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education provides an opportunity to apply for a North Carolina teaching license. This program prepares students to work professionally with children ages birth through kindergarten who are both typically developing and those at- risk for or diagnosed with a disability. Students in this field of study learn about the foundations and theories related to child development and become proficient at creating learning environments that foster children’s development, selecting materials and implementing pedagogy that embraces best practices, incorporating technology into the curriculum, creating anti-biased and multicultural classroom environments, and involving families in their children’s education.
Along with the coursework, students must meet several requirements and competencies for the teaching license as specified by the Department of Human Sciences, the School of Education and the Department of Public Instruction.
• Directed teaching experience in an accredited agency • A minimum grade of “C” in all required courses• Maintaining a 2.7-grade point average• Passing of the Praxis Core for Educators, formerly known as Praxis I
The National Council accredits the program for Accreditation of Teacher Education and approved by the NC Department of Public Instruction.

HUMAN SCIENCESConcentration: Child Development and Family Relations
Child Development and Family Relations (CDFR) is the largest concentration area within the Department of Human Sciences. The CDFR curriculum focuses on human development across the lifespan. A diverse and interdisciplinary approach to learning exposes students to current trends and knowledge used in working with children and families. Students gain applied experience in the field through our practicum course offering. This program of study prepares students to work effectively with individuals and families in a variety of contexts. Many of our students go on to pursue graduate degrees in Human Development and Family Studies or other related areas such as Psychology, and Social Work.
