Introduction to the Marine Service: • Provides ”core” information Global Ocean + regional seas

=> one integrated online catalogue • Operational service • Open and free of charge service • Products based on state-of-the-art technology • Continous evolution of the service • User driven • Core service… maritime safety, coastal and marine environment, marine resources, climate activities

Observation Part Thematic Assembly Centers - that collect and serve observations - In situ data - Remote sensing:

- Sea level - Ocean color - Ice, SST, wind

In near real time Re-prosessed data

Modelling Part Monitoring & Forecasting Centres: Global + 6 regional areas Produce and serve Model products: Forecast Reanalysis

Observation Part Thematic Assembly Centers - In situ - Remote sensing:

- Sea level - Ocean color - Ice, SST, wind

Modelling Part Monitoring & Forecasting Centres Forecast products Reanalysis products

The Observations have two purposes: • to monitor the ocean – ”real truth” back in time until now • Improve Model Products:

•Via validate the model quality •Via data-assimilation to correct the model towards ”real truth”

SMHI’s Contribution to CMEMS

Regional lead partner in In-situ observation center (INS-TAC) for Baltic Sea collects & QC observations from all Baltic countries fixed buoy stations sea level from tide gauges along the track data from Ferrybox vessels Partner in the Baltic Marine Forecasting Center (BAL-MFC) Produces model products: Forecasts (2.5 days ahead & archive 2 years back) physical state bio-geo-chemical state waves (New: April 2017) Reanalysis product (25 years back) physical state bio-geo-chemical state (from April 2018)
