The Seaport of Brake

Brake is an important location for grain and animal feed. In Germany, the port has a leading position for agricultural products and the import of cellulose. Large competence for the transshipment of wind power plants and project cargo, fuels steady growth in the import and export sector.

Our Seaport Brake. Your Benefit.

› Multi-functional specialty port› Modern port facility on the

river Weser with more than two kilometers of river quay

› Germany’s leading port in handling agricultural products and cellulose

› Large surface area potential for industrial or commercial settlement on short-call

The Seaport of Brake is located 26 kilometers

upstream the Weser delta. On the sea ship

navigable waters, along the river quay of 2.5 km,

there are modern cargo handling and silo

facilities, and a total of eight berths. As a multi-

functional specialty port, Brake will win you

over with its speed, flexibility, and wide range

of services. You can approach the port with

a maximum draft of 11.9 m (scheduled to be

12.8 m soon).

The southern port area with its silos is desig-

nated to handling grain and animal feed.

Adjacent, to the north, there is an area, where

forest products, such as cellulose and lumber,

but also iron and other bulk items, which

can be handled by clamshell grabs, are being

transshipped. Alongside this portion of the

port, there are areas for the handling of sulfur

and palm oil. At the most northern point of

the port you will find the »Niedersachsenkai«,

where steel and project loads, as well as wind

energy components and cellulose are handled.

This heavy load- capable quay provides two

large vessel berths.

The Interior Port is utilized by ocean-going

vessels, barges and fish trawlers. A sea lock for

ships with a size not to exceed 85 x 16 meters

and a draft of between 3.5 (independent of the

tide) and up to 5.0 m (depending on the tide)

connects the Interior Port with the river Weser.

Cargo Handling

Cereal and fertilizer, lumber and palm oil, large

steel pipes and rotor blades - Brake handles a

variety of goods, from bulk shipments to project

cargo. It ranks among the leading European

sea ports for agricultural cargo handling and for

the import of cellulose. By building the heavy

load- capable »Niedersachsenkai«, we created the

foundation for a dynamic development for project

cargo handling and the transshipment of com-

ponents for wind energy facilities. Brake is also the

only seaport in Germany, which handles both

liquid and solid sulfur.

The family-owned company J. Müller AG has

been offering a wide range of logistics services

for almost 200 years. At the terminal of Olenex

Edible Oils GmbH, vegetable oils are transshipped,

whereas the terminal of ExxonMobil Production

GmbH is used for the handling of sulfur.

Port Facilities

Brake has state-of-the-art, specialized port facilities

for loading and unloading ocean-going vessels.

Bulky and heavy break bulk can be trans shipped

just as efficiently as any of the various loose bulk

items.

»Agri Terminal«: Modern silo technology for the

fast handling of grains and feedstuff, equipped

with loading and unloading facilities for rail cars

and trucks and a storage capacity of 500,000 metric

tons. Berthing for two large ships with a length of

up to 270 m and a draft of up to 11.90 m (scheduled

to be 12.80 m soon).

»Break Bulk Terminal«: Generously scaled double

jib rotating luffing and gantry cranes (with a load

capacity of up to 80 metric tons) for quick loading

and unloading of the ocean-going vessels, some-

times straight from barges and coasters. Attached

Break Bulk Logistics Center with 100,000 m2 covered

storage space and 60,000 m2 open storage space.

»Sulfur Terminal«: Sulfur transshipment and

compacting facility of ExxonMobil Production

Deutschland GmbH, with capacities of up to

900,000 metric tons of sulfur annually, either in

liquid form or locally processed into solid sulfur.

»Olenex Pier«: Cargo handling and processing of

some 500,000 metric tons of tropical food-grade

oils.

»Niedersachsenkai«: Heavy load pier with two

gantry cranes (up to 60 metric tons bearing load),

plus two mobile cranes (each with a load capacity of

140 metric tons). Specialized in handling project

cargo, wind power plants, cellulose and steel, plus

their pertaining logistics.

Commercial and Industrial Areas

Brake has an actively usable area of some

110 hectares. Within the past ten years, 20 hectares

of commercial area were newly developed and

estab lished. We focuse on the future: In close

vicinity of the »Niedersachsenkai«, 50 hectares of

expansion area can be available on short notice.

Another 35 hectares, earmarked for commercial

and indus trial settlements, will be available in the

near future. Please do not hesitate to contact us

and we will consult you in regard to your settlement

needs.

Niedersachsen Ports is the port infrastructure company with the

highest number of public seaports in Germany. We are responsible

for five seaports, seven island supply ports, and three regional

ports along the coastal region of Niedersachsen. In our locations, we

market our commercial and industrial areas and attract port- related

companies to settle here. Some of our core tasks include the develop-

ment, construction and maintenance of the infrastructure, and in

doing so, we are actively designing the future of the ports. We care

about the entire region and its economic development: The ports are

the center of life and work for many people on a daily basis. We are

very much in tune with this responsibility.

Strong Partners – Modern Port ManagementAt our branch Brake we are a reliable partner for operating the rail

infrastructure and our own cargo handling facilities. Additionally

Niedersachsen Ports takes over the mooring of ocean vessels

and their shore supply with electricity and portable water as well

as the organization of the ship’s waste removal.

Transport Connections By land, by waterway as well as on railway: Brake is sporting an excellent trimodal hinterland

connection with a rail network of 33 kilometers within the port area, a direct link-up to the

Federal Highways B211, B212, B437 and the nearby Federal Freeways (Autobahn) A27, A28, A29.

Via the river Weser, the port is directly connected to the inland waterway network.
