Create Content With SEO in Mind

Part 4 - Links Alberto Cantor | Product Strategist | acantor@redbricksmedia.com

Welcome back!

Up until now, we’ve

covered 3 main themes

1 2 3 Search

and

Crawlers

HTML

Elements

Keywords

If you still have any doubts, please visit our blog

redbricksmedia.com/blog and our previous

presentations

So let’s get started and learn

about how links impact SEO

Since the late 90’s,

search engines have used

links as “votes”

A link is the

relationship between

two things or

situations. On the

web, it is the

relationship between

two webpages

Links are certainly not everything in SEO, but

professionals attribute a large portion of the

engine’s algorithms to link-based factors

And because of the

large number of

spammy sites out

there, some links

are more valuable

than others.

For example, a link

from Techcrunch.com

is way more valuable

than a link from milliondollarhomepage.com

For SEO professionals, links are one of the few

controllable “SEO Elements” because you can work with

service providers and allow or disallow them

So you can

understand the

importance that

links have in

SEO...

They are basically

⅓ of the pie - the

other ⅔ are HTML

elements and

keywords

Since links can come from many

sources, RBM is going to focus on

helping you get those quality links

Links can be split into:

Outbound Inbound Internal

Links that connect

your internal

pages together:

navigation menu,

footer, content

links, etc.

Links that point

from your website

to an external

source

Links that point

from an external

source to your

website

And also into:

Reviews

and

Comments

Social

Links

Contextual

and

Editorial

Links that are

placed within the

body of a content

piece

Links that point to

your site from

reviews and

comments

Links that come

from social

network sites such

as Twitter,

Facebook,

LinkedIn, etc.

Reviews

and

Comments

Social

Links

Contextual

and

Editorial

As you can see,

there are different

types of links and

more and more

come up every day

as new technologies

are born

(in-app links,

widgets, syndication,

etc.)

So how do you

get those links?
