3. PROCESS &

UNDERSTANDING

Above the Shoulders The VOICE

What is success?

HOW WILL A PLAYER IMPROVE?

KNOWING WHO/WHAT YOU ARE AS A CRICKETER – EG FIELDING

1. CAN I CATCH?

2. DO I WATCH THE BALL?

3. CAN I BEND DOWN?

4. AM I A SPECIALIST ANYWHERE? IF NOT, WHY NOT?

5. CAN I CONCENTRATE IN THE FIELD?

6. AM I ENERGETIC IN THE FIELD?

7. DO I WANT THE BALL TO COME TO ME?

5 ACTION STEPS TO MY BEST YEAR EVER

1. KNOWING WHAT ADJUSTMENTS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

2. CORRECTLY PLANNING TO IMPLEMENT THOSE ADJUSTMENTS

3. IMPLEMENTING THOSE ADJUSTMENTS

4. STICKING TO THOSE PLANS AND DRILLS (ADJUSTMENTS)

5. REVIEWING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THOSE ADJUSTMENTS

PROCESS V EMOTION

END PERFORMANCE

THE ULTIMATE ENJOYMENT

PRESSURE

There is no rocket science here. In round 1 a team wins and a team loses. In the Grand Final a team wins and a team loses. The only difference is how badly the players want the outcome to go their way and how much this influences their ability to think about the job at hand.

Concentrate on the skill execution required.

Michael Hussey appears to me to be one of the very best performers across multiple forms of the game and in big moments. His next action is always a reflection of what the teams needs that ball.

RESPONSE TO FAILING NOT PERFORMING AT THE LEVEL YOU EXPECT IS HARD TO DEAL WITH. NOT

PERFORMING AT THE LEVEL OTHERS EXPECT IS HARDER AGAIN.

IT IS USUASL FOR PLAYERS TO RUSH PERFORMANCE / SUCCESS WHEN THIS FEELING HITS. NORMALLY THIS MEANS HURRYING TOWARDS ANOTHER MEDIOCE PERFORMANCE

MY ADVICE IS TO WATCH THE BALL. ANYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT PLAYING THE GAME WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO COME OUT. THINKING ABOUT TECHNIQUE PLACES YOUR KEY RESPONSE DOWN THE QUEUE.

IF YOU ATTEMPT TO PLAY THE WAY THE TEAM NEEDS YOU TO THEY WILL RESPECT YOUR EFFORT. IF THEY DON’T .. GET A NEW TEAM!
