Cross-Country:
Freshman Jonah Carlson placed 15th overall out of 222 finishers in the freshman section at Ocean State
earning a medal.
Freshman Jonah Carslon earns Catholic Conference Freshman Champion title.
Team members took part in the 30th Annual Alumni Fun Run on Saturday November 28th at Brother
Gilbert Stadium.
Football:
Season record 7-4
The team qualified for the Div. II Tournament falling to Reading in the 1st round. They went on to play
two consolation games vs. Acton-Boxborough and Newton South earning wins in both. Ending their
season with a Thanksgiving eve win at home over Waltham.
Golf: Season record:
9-9
Finish 3rd in Div II North Finals qualifying for the Div II State Finals.
Finished 8th Div II State Finals.
Soccer: Season record: 8-9-1
Qualified for Div II preliminary round post-season play, falling to Arlington.
Senior Nights: Seniors and their parents recognized for their dedication and commitment to MC athletics and their teams.

College commitments to play:
Anthony DeSouza, Class of 2016 lead the Lancers pitching staff last spring with an 1.07 ERA and 63K in
39 innings of work. Anthony committed to the University of Rhode Island, Division 1 Atlantic 10
Conference.
Ethan Harris, Class of 2016 is a two-time Catholic Conference All-Star. He led the Lancers with 27 hits.
He finished the season with a .333 batting average. Ethan committed to Southern New Hampshire
University, Division 2, NE-10 Conference.
Frank Celona, Class of 2016 was the general behind the plate leading the Lancers to another post-season
appearance. Frank’s defense was the foundation to the team’s success. Which included throwing 95% of
baseball runners. Frank committed to Franklin Pierce University, Division 2, NE-10 Conference.
Brenden McCarthy committed to play DI Lacrosse at Mt. St. Mary's in Maryland.
Brendan LaVallee committed to play baseball at American International College.

External Affairs and the Athletic Department
welcomed the undefeated season and Class B
Champions 1965 Football team for a reception,
half time introduction and recognition of the team
and cheerleaders. MC football took on CM that
evening earning a conference win.
November 20, 2015:

attended the MIAA Sportsmanship Summit at Gillette Stadium.
November 22, 2015: MC and Waltham football captains and coaches attended traditional annual pre-Thanksgiving game
breakfast sponsored by John Brewers Tavern.

Junior James Hutchinson and Senior Anthony DeSouza were chosen as MIAA Student Ambassadors
for the 2015-2016 school year.

Lancer Award: The Lancer Award is the highest award presented to a Malden Catholic student-athlete within each
season. Lat Lancer Award is presented to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the core values of
Malden Catholic, while simultaneously being a major, positive contributor to the overall success and
well-being of his team
Peter Ventola was the recipient of the Lancer Award this season. Peter is a member of the Varsity
Football team, National Honor Society, Student Council and Habitat for Humanity.

Student-Athletes of the Week:
Week of September 11th- September 18th
Freshman Matt Soucy - freshman soccer. On September 14th, Matt scored two goals, including the game
winner against Central Catholic. Matt's two goals led the Lancers to their first victory of the season.
Week of September 18th – September 25th
Sophomore Brian Cannata - varsity golf. Brian shot 2 under with a 33 verse Winthrop on Tuesday
September 22nd at the Winthrop Country Club. It was a great match for Brian and a nice win for the
team.
Week of September 25th- October 2nd 2015
Senior Reise Turransky - Varsity Football. Reise had over 100 multi-purpose yards in the win over
Malden on September 25. He put MC on the board with a 76 yard touchdown reception from QB Colin
Sullivan. Reise’s 11 yard TD reception with 9 seconds left to play in regulation gave MC the win over cross town rival Malden High School.
Week of October 2nd – October 9th 2015
Freshman Jonah Carlson - Cross-country. Jonah placed 2nd overall in the Varsity 5K race against
Catholic Memorial with a time of 18:57, the fastest Malden Catholic time of the day and second fastest
time for any athlete this season, it is the fastest 5K time for a Malden Catholic freshman since 2005.
Jonah has won two of his dual meet races in the freshman section this year against BC High and St John's
Prep, and has the top 3K time in the league so far this season. He also placed 15th overall at the Ocean
State Invite earning a medal.
Week of October 9th – October 16th
Senior Devin Kelly - varsity soccer. Devin has been and continues to be the varsity soccer teams most
potent offensive threat this season. With 16 goals and 5 assists, Devin is MC’s largest single season point
holder in the past 4 years, and is currently the Catholic Conference’s leading scorer. He has been an
integral part of the team this season and leads by example as a senior in ways that make his coaches proud
and garners respect from his teammates.
Week of October 16th –October 23rd
Tim Donnelly Student Athlete - varsity golf. Tim is Captain of the Varsity Golf team and is being
recognized for his stellar post season play. Shooting an 80 in the MIAA Preliminary's and an 81 in the
2015 Div II - Golf Final.
Week of October 31st – November 6th
Junior captain Kellen Field. Kellen had 23 carries for 173 yards and four touchdowns in last Friday
night’s game vs. Acton Boxborough.
Week of November 6th – November 13th
Varsity football’s offensive line; Kyle Chute, Jeff Collignon, Mike Scarpa, Tyler Webb, and Ian Fogarty.
The team ran for 369 yards and 5 touchdowns. On the season the ground attack has averaged 160 yards
