Croydon Transitions Behavioural Support Team

• Started 7th April 2014

• Made up of Mat Steeples, Behavioural Support Team Leader and Lisa Connolly, Behavioural Support Facilitator

Who we help? • 14-18 year olds who are learning disabled

• We support people whose behaviour challenges

• We support people who live in Croydon or funded by Croydon but living out of borough

What is challenging behaviour?• Shouting• Hitting• Kicking• Biting• Not joining in• Hurting

themselves

Why do we challenge?

• Pain or feeling unwell

• Unhappiness

• Loud noises

Why do we challenge?• Don’t like certain people

• Nobody understands what we are saying

• Being told to do things we don’t want to do

• Genetics

How we help? We try to understand why a young person behaves the way they do

Look at things like where a young person lives and how they are supported

Find ways to prevent the behaviour from occurring

How we help?

Find good ways to deal with the behaviour when it happens

How we help?

Plan transitions for children who are learning disabled and have challenging needs
