So what is Cyber Crime?
What is it?
Cyber Dependent Crimes
A digital system (devices such as computer, smartphone etc.) or
network (linked devices) is the target (victim) as well as the means of
attack (attacker).
Cyber Enabled Crimes
‘Real world’ crimes that have moved online and can now be carried out
on an industrial scale.
Other
The use of the Internet to facilitate drug dealing, people smuggling and
many other 'traditional' crime types.
‘Criminal activities carried out by means of computers or the Internet’
Which of these pose a risk?
So is it really such a big
problem?
An estimated 6 million cybercrime offences were
committed last year (ONS 2016)
We are now living our lives increasingly online
We are an affluent country with a generally poor cyber
security culture
We are more likely to take precautions offline than we are
online
This makes the UK an attractive target for cybercriminals
However it’s not all doom and gloom
80% is easily preventable
