Favela Vera Ortiz is a Finnish-Argentinian chore-
ographer based in Helsinki, Finland. She studied
choreography at the University of Dance in Stock-
holm, Sweden. Her works have been shown on both
national and international stages and festivals. Fave-
la has choreographed works for dance
companies in Buenos Aires and in Gothenburg & has
completed residencies in Berlin and Paris.
She is currently working in Melbourne for three
months in collaboration with the sculptor Annee Miron and filmmaker Anna Brown-
field. They are preparing a performance to be shown at Yarra Sculpture Gallery in
April 2013.
In this DANCE YOUR HEART OUT workshop, participants will get to work with the
movement material and ideas Favela is working with for her performance at the
Yarra Sculptire Gallery next month.

Over the past 14 years Kristina has performed
throughout Australia, Canada, UK, USA, Asia, Is-
rael and Europe working with Australian Compa-
nies, Choreographers and Directors: Force Majeure,
Kate Champion, Australian Dance Theatre, Garry
Stewart, Chunky Move, Australian Ballet, Gideon
Obarzanek, Lucy Guerin Inc, Stephanie Lake, Sydney
Theatre Company, Theatre of Image, West Australian
Opera, Opera Queensland, State Opera South Aus-
tralia, Tasdance, Michelle Mahrer & Bernadette
Walong, Narelle Benjamin, Anton & Tanja Liedtke.
Currently Kristina is exploring her own choreographic work. In 2011 she presented a
short solo work Carnivorous at Solo Festival of Dance and Lost and Found as a part of
iOU Dance at UNSW and then presented in Spring Dance Festival 2012 at the Sydney
Opera House. In September 2012, Kristina premiered her 1st full length work Kingdom
Mourning for 3rd year students at Adelaide College of the Arts. Kristina has been
awarded the Helpmann Award 2011 ‘Best Female Dancer in a Dance or Physical
Theatre Production’ for Narelle Benjamin’s In Glass and two Australian Dance
Awards 'Outstanding performance by a Female Dancer’ for both of Tanja Liedtke’s

A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, By-
ron has toured extensively developing and perform-
ing roles with Douglas Wright, Leigh Warren, Chunky
Move, Paul Selwyn Norton, Lucy Guerin, Ballet Lab,
DV8 Physical Theatre, Force Majeure, Antony Hamil-
ton Projects and KAGE Physical Theatre. In 2006 he
received an Australian Dance Award for 'outstanding
performance by a male dancer' and won ‘Best Male
Dancer’ at the Greenroom Awards. During
2010/2011 he worked as associate director with both
Force Majeure & Lucy Guerin Inc. In 2011 he was awarded the inaugural Harold
Mitchell fellowship for professional development in direction & choreography. He has
also been nominated for a Greenroom Award for best original choreography.
In 2009 he was commissioned by Chunky Move to create ‘I Like This’ for their Next
Move program with co-director Antony Hamilton, touring nationally and international-
ly. In Oct 2011 he premiered a sold out season of new work, ‘Double Think’ in Mel-
bourne International Arts Festival. In 2012 he presented ‘One Show Only’, a collabora-
tion between Singapore based co. Frontier Danceland & Arts House Melbourne.

Luke George is a Melbourne based dance artist who
grew up in Tasmania and currently finds himself
working a lot in New York City. George is a graduate
of the Victorian College of the Arts. His practice as
performer, choreographer and collaborator has tak-
en him throughout Australia, Europe, Asia and North
America.
George is best known as a performer for his work
with Phillip Adams BalletLab, Jo Lloyd and Gideon
Obarzanek/Chunky Move, as well as with Miguel
Gutierrez and the Powerful People (NYC), Stephanie Lake, Frances d’Ath, Shelley La-
sica, Jerril Rechter, ITOH Kim (Tokyo) and Deborah Hay (solo performance project). He
received a Greenroom Award for Best Male Dancer (body of work) in 2011.
As a choreographer George’s work has been presented by Arts House, Dancehouse, PI-
CA, Dance Massive, Next Wave festival, Melbourne Fringe, 10 Days on the Island and he
has performed short pieces in New York City (AUNTS, Abrons Arts Centre) and Tokyo
(Kagurazaka die pratze). Choreographic highlights include NOW NOW NOW, LIFESIZE
and HOME all of which have received Australian Dance and Green Room award nomi-
nations. George has received several commissions including work with the Syd-

In July 2012, Anouk van Dijk assumed the role of
Artistic Director of Chunky Move. Her debut work for
the company, An Act of Now, was awarded The Age
Critics’ Award for Best New Australian Work in the
2012 Melbourne Festival.
In 1998 van Dijk formed anoukvandijk dc, her own,
Amsterdam based, company - producing twenty
full-length works that have toured the globe,
attracting broad audiences and critical acclaim.
Australian tours of her work include STAU at the
Adelaide Festival &Sydney Opera House in 2006 and TRUST at the Perth International
Arts Festival in 2011. In 2012 van Dijk was awarded the prestigious Golden Swan
(Gouden Zwaan) Award – the Netherlands’ most prestigious arts award.
In this DANCE YOUR HEART OUT class, Anouk van Dijk will be teaching
Countertechnique, the movement system she developed during her career over the last
20 years. A Countertechnique class consists of recurring, simple exercises that lead in-
to fluid movement phrases. Countertechnique classes can help dancers focus on and
explore the many elements that are operating and influencing the body and mind when
preparing for rehearsal and performance.
