In addition to its position as the capital and largest city in
Belarus, Minsk is also headquarters of the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS), whose member countries are
former Soviet Republics. Given its prominent role throughout
the region, it’s only fitting the city wanted a flagship venue for
the varied sports and other activities that take place here.
Enter the Minsk Arena. Completed in December 2009, the
newly constructed Minsk Arena includes a multi-sports and
entertainment arena for 15,000 spectators, which is
currently the largest capacity venue in the KHL (Kontinental
Hockey League).
Minsk-based Art Ramos Studio a.l.c., a design/build
firm specializing in the professional sound, lighting, cinema,
and staging markets, was awarded the contract for the
arena’s sound reinforcement system. After final designs
were approved in November 2008, the firm proceeded to
install a system that revolves around æro line array
technology from D.A.S. Audio.
According to Anton Streltsov, Deputy Director of Art

All loudspeakers are positioned over center ice above
the media cube—an octagonal unit sporting eight large
LED displays with a total surface of more than 500 square
meters created by large screen specialist Palami of Minsk.
The centrally positioned ring of loudspeakers was
determined to be the most effective means of providing even
coverage throughout the space.
Streltsov explained.
Six D.A.S. Audio BiDriver Plus 2-way horn speaker
units augment the eight flown line array clusters.
Streltsov remarked,

Home to the Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria, this
spectacular venue is versatile enough to also be the ideal
spot for holding a range of sporting, cultural or musical events
in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The arena can seat 11,500
fans during basketball games and upwards of 18,000 when it
opens its doors for concerts or events like concerts or
supercross races.
Canary´s based design and installation company
Hipermusic was called in to handle the design and installation
of the D.A.S. sound system. After studying the arena’s
specific measurements and characteristics, Hipermusic
recommended installing the powerful and versatile æro
Series 2 line array systems. The design team, led by
Hipermusic’s Carlos Guerra, worked hand-in-hand with

Six clusters of seven æro 12A powered line array
systems were installed for the main PA providing optimum
sound to a multipurpose arena configurable in myriad ways.
The top five units of each cluster are configured for long and
medium throw to cover the arena’s permanent stands, while
the two lower units are short-throw, angled towards the
retractable bleachers, much closer to the court. If needed,
they can be muted when the bleachers are retracted. On the
court, four BiDriver Plus, powered by D.A.S. D-20 amps,
enhance speech intelligibility, while D.A.S. DSP-4080 digital
signal processors handle the management and control of the
entire system.

Gdynia Municipal Football stadium recently received a
large, networked audio-driven sound reinforcement system. Piotr
Nowiński, at the helm of the Arka Gydinia installation, knew that his
project could provide a fundamental improvement to the stadium:
in general good sound quality and particularly perfect speech
intelligibility, contribute towards increasing the spectacular nature
of football events. Combined with the background music, the
commentators, and the general energy that the games generate,
football becomes more than just a game.
With room for more than 15,000 seated spectators, each
zone of the stadium required a different solution. It was crucial
that spectators in the stand could correctly understand spoken
message and that the sound was distributed evenly to obtain
solid coverage with the minimum number of cabinets. However,
in the playing field area the most important element was to have
a long throw application without compromising on quality. Finally,
zones like stadium entrances or corridors, where the top priority
was good acoustic signalling for announcements, had to be
taken into account.
Management, football players and fans were able to
appreciate the results of the installation from the very first day. As
Nowiński concludes, “We have achieved perfect and uniform
sound coverage in all areas. No significant drops in SPL are
detected at any point”.

Located along Miami’s scenic Biscayne Bay, the
AmericanAirlines Arena boasts a seating capacity of 19,600
and can be tailored to numerous types of mass events. When
the time came to replace the arena’s aging upper delay ring
and outdoor perimeter area loudspeaker systems, the HEAT
Group, responsible for the venue´s upgrades elected to
install Artec and Avant series loudspeakers.
Dave Vickery, Director of Broadcast Services, and
Jorge Arronte, Manager of Sound and Matrix, are the two
HEAT Group staffers tasked with designing, deploying, and
overseeing the use of the various audio and video systems at
AmericanAirlines Arena. Vickery discussed his decision to
utilize D.A.S. Audio’s Artec and Avant series loudspeakers,
“We needed a new solution to replace our aging upper delay
ring loudspeaker system and the outdoor perimeter area. We
tested loudspeaker systems from various manufacturers and
found the D.A.S. products fitour needs perfectly.”
With the new loudspeaker systems up and running,
Vickery and Arronte report everything is performing well and
patrons have noticed the difference, “The installation of the
Artec speakers has proven to be a success in all aspects.
They sound great! We have received “HEAT-Fan”
compliments regarding the quality of audio and the ability to
comprehend what is being played through them. This product
accurately reflectsour 5-star goals for our patrons. We are
very happy with the improved sound performance and look
forward to working with D.A.S. in the future.”

Twickenham Stadium or just Twickenham as it is more
commonly known, is England’s National Rugby Team
stadium located in the south-east London suburb of
Twickenham. It is the UK’s biggest rugby stadium, recently
raising its seating capacity from 75,000 to 82,000. To the
delight of English rugby fans, the stadium recently
revamped its sound reinforcement system.
The stadium’s audio upgrade using D.A.S sound
systems was completed in October by the firm Sysco, led by
Hugo Roche and advised by audio consultant and job project
manager, Roland Hemming. The RFU (Rugby Football
Union) contracted an independent consultant firm,
Vanguardia Consulting, directed by Jim Griffiths, to supervise
the install. On site consultants working for Vanguardia were
Mark Murphy, John Staunton and Mike Bedford. To complete
the install Sysco used 22 kilometres (about 14 miles) of cable
and seven different delays to synchronize the system to
perfection.
Following an acoustic simulation done with Ease 4.2
software, a decision was made to employ a total of 168 Arco
24 systems to cover the rows of the lower tier and 168 Artec
26 units for the middle tier in order to achieve optimum SPL
for this type of venue and provide uniform coverage across
the audience area. The Arco 24 and Artec 26 units were
positioned horizontally with a four meter distance between
them. Both models were equipped to meet IP-54 standards
for outdoor use.

Although the Fernando Buesa Arena is technically a
multi-use venue, it is, for the people of Vitoria, first and
foremost the home court for its basketball team, Baskonia. It
was at just such a league game that the pavilion revealed its
makeover, a renovation which transformed the venue –
several decades after its initial construction – into a
thoroughly modern facility for the city of Vitoria.
Expanded seating to accommodate up to 15,290
people, a new dome and a sophisticated new façade are
some of the most obvious exterior changes. But interior
updates are no less significant. Inside, fans can enjoy the
new seats as well as new audio-visual equipment including
an impressive scoreboard with eight 18 m2 sides, and a first-
class sound reinforcement equipment installed by Ingevision
(Ekintza), anchored by æro line array systems that steal the
show.
What Buesa Arena now offers sports enthusiasts is an
increasingly popular way to take in sporting events: watching
the action live on the field without missing the details on the
giant screens. Sports enthusiasts can hear the voices of
more than 15,000 spectators shouting in unison and while
simultaneously enjoying well-crafted background sound. The
result? More sensory stimulation, for a greater spectator
experience. In short, more fun.

Playing to a capacity crowd of better than 75,000-not to mention a national TV audience,
half-time performances were brought to life by the audio team at Interface Sound using a
collection of loudspeakers from D.A.S. Audio
Based in Miami, Interface Sound has grown from a modest start in 1985 into one of the leading audio/visual, staging, and
lighting companies in the Southeastern United States. Spearheaded by owner/operator Ralph Alvarez, the firm handles a wide
variety of live sound and corporate/industrial events, and is the equipment provider of audio and staging for Carnival Miami, an
annual event in Miami's Little Havana district that attracts upwards of one million people.
For the Orange Bowl´s halftime show, Interface Sound constructed an audio system consisting of sixty D.A.S. Audio æro
38A powered, 3-way line arrays and twelve æro 182A 2k powered subwoofers that surrounded the playing field and faced out
toward the stands. The actual sound reinforcement system on the field consisted of twelve mobile carts that were pulled into
place at halftime by a dozen golf carts.

"The biggest challenge of this project
was signal routing and power consumption,"
says Alvarez. "D.A.S. Audio's self-powered
products use Class D power amplification,
so they don't require a lot of amperage.
They're highly efficient. Combine this with
the fact that the æros are very predictable in
terms of their dispersion patterns, and you
have a great system that ends up being
easy to work with and provides great
coverage throughout the entire arena.
Everyone was really pleased with the
system's performance."
