Welcome our friends and students from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to UM new campus. It is my greatest honor to be here and welcome you all on behalf of the University of Macau. Including colleagues, students from HKUST and UM family, please join me to give a round of applause to all members of the organizing committee and Sports Association. Without them, this event will not be possible. Apart from your participation in HKUST-UM Sports Challenge Cup 2015, I would also like to invite our guests from HKUST to spare some times to visit our beautiful new campus during the day. On behalf of the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, I would like to extend my appreciation to those involved in the 2015 HKUST‐UM Sports Challenge Cup – the Organizing Committee, officials, coaches, athletes, volunteers and guests. I am most pleased to witness this annual sporting contest between the two universities has entered its 16th year consecutively since 2000 and am grateful for the opportunities for our students to use the new sports facilities of UM. Let’s enjoy the valuable experiences through sports and treasure the friendship with the sister University. I am looking forward to the exciting matches and wish the 2015 HKUST‐UM Sports Challenge Cup every success. Congratulations and best wishes for success in the competition. General Rules and Regulations
1. The University which has the wins half or more events will be
the winner of the 16th HKUST - UM Sports Challenge Cup 2015.
In case of both universities having the same number of wins, the
Champion will be the Home Team.
2. In case of raining / bad weather, some events with outdoor
venues may be cancelled.
3. All competitors must be full-time students of the University.

Rules for Different Sports Events
1 Badminton (Mixed) Number of participants: 4 Males and 4 Females Proposed Competition Format & Rules - The team which wins 3 out of 5 matches will be the winner - Each match will be played in best 2 out of 3 sets - 21 points in each set - If the set goes to 20:20, team which wins 2 points over the other will be the winner of the set - If the set goes to 29:29, team which wins the 30th point will be the winner of the set - The winner of the previous set gets to serve in the next set - After 11 Points of each game, both side can have a rest of 1 minute - The rest time between a set is 2 minutes - Allow 1 male and 1 female play in 2 game - The 5 games will be played in the following format: 1) Men’s Single; 2) Women’s Single; 3) Men’s Double; 4) Women’s Double; 5) Mixed Double.
2 & 3 Basketball (Men & Women) Number of participants: 12-16 Males and 12-16 Females Proposed Competition Format & Rules - FIBA Rules will be adopted. - 4 sessions of 10 minutes each, with 10 minutes break between 2nd and
3rd sessions. An extra session of 5 minutes will be played if there is a tie. The game clock will keep running non-stop except the followings:
1) The last 2 minute of session 1, 2 and 3; 2) The whole session 4; 3) The extra session; Time-out or special incident stopped by the referee.
4 Fencing (Mixed) Proposed Competition Format & Rules
Team Events Individual Events 1. Men’s Foil 1 Men’ Foil 2. Men’s Epee 2 Men’s Epee 3. Ladies’ Combined 3 Women’s Foil 4 Women’s Epee (1) Individual Events: a. 3 points for the champion,

b. 1 point for the first runner-up (2) Team Events: a. Men’s events - 3 points for the winning team b. Ladies combined event - 4 points for the winning The team with more points will be the winner of the Fencing Event. Individual event Max. no of 4 male fencers and 2 female fencers in Epee and Foil from each university. After the end of the pools match, half of the fencers with the lowest scores will be eliminated. Maximum no. of fencers entering direct elimination will be: a. 4 for male events b. 2 for female events In direct elimination, higher ranked fencers will compete against those with lower ranking fencers, e.g 1-4, 2-3. Bouts are to 15 hits, or a maximum fencing time of 9 minutes, with 1-minute break in between each 3-minute session. Team events 1. Men’s Events: Team of 4 in Men’s Epee and Men’s Foil. Score of 5 touches or the multiples of 5 touches or 3 minutes playing time expires. - If, at the end of 3 minutes, the leading score for the bout is not a multiple of 5 touches, the next fencer continue to fence until the next multiple of 5 touches. (Example: Score of the second bout is 9-6 when time expires. The third bout begins with a score of 9-6, and continues until one of the teams has a total score of 15 touches, or the 3 minutes expires.) - In the case of a tie score at the end of regulation time for the final bout, an additional minute of fencing will be allowed, to a single decisive touch. This decisive touch will be fenced by the final two fencers. The referee will flip a coin to determine the winner should the score remain tied at the end of the additional minute. The win decided by coin tossing will be recorded on the score sheet. - The opposing team will win the event when a fencer and the possible substitute are forced to withdraw, or when a fencer is excluded from the team match. 2. Ladies’ Event (Combined Team) 1. One fencer each of all 3 weapons in the Ladies’ Team Event, i.e. one fencer each from UM and HKUST in Epee, Foil and Sabre. 2. Each bout can consist of 10 touches. Each bout has two 3-minute sessions with 1-minute break in between. The score could be

cumulative, and the maximum cumulative team score of the bout is [10 *order of bout]. 3. The order of play is: Order Weapon 1 Foil 2 Sabre 3 Epee
5 Korfball (Mixed) Number of participants: 8 Males and 8 Females Proposed Competition Format & Rules - 2 sessions of 30 minutes each, with 5 minutes rest time between
sessions. - The game clock will keep running non-stop except the following:
the last 2 minutes of each sessions; Time out or special incident stopped by the referee.
- If there is a tie, penalty shooting will be used 6 Karate (Men)
Number of participants: Both: 5 male Proposed Competition Format & Rules 1 competitions type: Kumite 5 judges Using 8 x 8 court The team which has three winner out of five contests will be considered as winning team. The following protective equipment is compulsory:
8.1. WKF approved mitts, one contestant wearing red and the other wearing blue. 8.2. Gum shield. 8.3. WKF approved body protection (for all athletes) plus chest protector for female athletes. 8.4. The shin pads approved by the WKF, one contestant wearing red and the other wearing blue. 8.5. The foot protection approved by the WKF, one contestant wearing red and the other wearing
blue. 8.6. Cadets will, in addition to the above, also wear the WKF approved face
mask. SCORING
1. Scores are as follows: a) IPPON Three points b) WAZA-ARI Two points

c) YUKO One point 2. A score is awarded when a technique is performed according to the following criteria to a scoring area:
a) Good form b) Sporting attitude c) Vigorous application d) Awareness (ZANSHIN) e) Good timing f) Correct distance
3. IPPON is awarded for: a) Jodan kicks. b) Any scoring technique delivered on a thrown or fallen opponent.
4. WAZA-ARI is awarded for: a) Chudan kicks.
5. YUKO is awarded for: a) Chudan or Jodan Tsuki. b) Jodan or Chudan Uchi.
6. Attacks are limited to the following areas: a) Head b) Face c) Neck d) Abdomen e) Chest f) Back g) Side
7. An effective technique delivered at the same time that the end of the bout is signalled, is considered valid. A technique even if effective, delivered after an order to suspend or stop the bout shall not be scored and may result in a penalty being imposed on the offender. 8. No technique, even if technically correct, will be scored if it is delivered when the two contestants are outside the competition area. However, if one of the contestants delivers an effective technique while still inside the competition area and before the Referee calls “YAME”, the technique will be scored.
There are two categories of prohibited behaviour, Category 1 and Category 2. CATEGORY 1
1. Techniques which make excessive contact, having regard to the scoring area attacked, and techniques which make contact with the throat. 2. Attacks to the arms or legs, groin, joints, or instep.

3. Attacks to the face with open hand techniques. 4. Dangerous or forbidden throwing techniques.
CATEGORY 2
1. Feigning, or exaggerating injury. 2. Exit from the competition area (JOGAI) not caused by the opponent. 3. Self-endangerment by indulging in behavior, which exposes the contestant to injury by the opponent, or failing to take adequate measures for self-protection, (MUBOBI). 4. Avoiding combat as a means of preventing the opponent having the opportunity to score. 5. Passivity – not attempting to engage in combat. 6. Clinching, wrestling, pushing, seizing or standing chest to chest, without attempting a throw or other technique. 7. Techniques, which by their nature, cannot be controlled for the safety of the opponent and dangerous and uncontrolled attacks. 8. Simulated attacks with the head, knees, or elbows. 9. Talking to, or goading the opponent, failing to obey the orders of the Referee, discourteous behavior towards the Refereeing officials, or other breaches of etiquette.
7 Sports Climbing (Mixed) Number of participants: Both 7 Males and 6 Females Proposed Competition Format & Rules
Heat: (Top Rope, 1 point for each successful hole) 7 males and 6 females in each team 3 minutes observation 6 minutes climbing One demonstration With isolation
The best 3 climbers from each team will go into the final. Rest of 15 minutes between heat and final. Final: (Leading, 1 point for each successful hole)
3 males and 3 females in each team 3 minutes observation 6 minutes climbing No demonstration With isolation
All 6 climbers in each gender will be ranked according to their scores.

New ranking marks will be applied as below: Rank 1: 6 marks Rank 2: 5 marks Rank 3: 4 marks Rank 4: 3 marks Rank 5: 2 marks Rank 6: 1 marks
The team has higher accumulative ranking marks of her own 6 climbers (3 males and 3 females) will be the winner. If there is still a tie, one climber from each team will enter the “Super Final”. Winner of the “Super Final” will be the winning team.
8 Soccer (Men) Number of participants: 12-14Males Proposed Competition Format & Rules Futsal Regulation (5-a-side)
- Number of Players: 5 against 5 (4 field players plus GK’s). The maximum roster size is 14 for every team.
- Pitch: artificial grass (40x20m); - Game Duration: (stop watch) two (2) twenty (20) minutes halves
with ten (10) minutes half-time break; - NO GAME TIE - To determine a winner will use the following
method: Extra time: (stop watch) two (2) five (5) minutes halves with no
half-time break 3 round Penalty-kick shoot-out (6 meters) Round by round sudden death PK shoot-out until tie is broken
- Match Ball: low bounce Futsal balls BASIC RULES (Mainly for 5-a-side)
1. Opponents must be 5 meters from ball on kick-ins. 2. Players have 4 seconds to take kick-ins 3. Goal Keepers have 4 seconds to take goal throws 4. FIVE accumulated fouls equals a 9 meters penalty kick (each half of
20 minutes)
Mainly follow “FIFA Laws of the game” Uniforms and equipment: All team members who are not the nominated Goalkeeper, participate in a color coordinated uniform comprises: a) A numbered shirt (the number must clearly contrast with the shirt color) b) Shorts (may be numbered) c) Long Socks

d) Suitable non-marking shoes or artificial grass shoes (more than 16 studs) e) Shine pads that provide a reasonable degree of protection

- Best 3 out of 5 sets for each match - 11 points in a set - Team which wins 6 or more events will be the winner
10 Swimming (Mixed) Number of participants: UM: 3 Males and 8 Females HKUST: 11 Males and 4 Females Proposed Competition Format & Rules A total of 6 individual events and 1 relay event. At least 2 swimmers from each team will participate in individual events while 2 males and 2 females will participate in relay events. - 50 M in Freestyle and Breast stroke in Male - 50 M in Freestyle, Breast stroke, Butterfly, Back stroke in Female -4 x 50M Freestyle Relay (a team with 2 males and 2 females) Scoring in individual events (Only the top 4 swimmers will be counted): 1st position: 5 points 2nd position: 3 points 3rd position: 2 points 4th position: 1 point Scoring in relay events (Only the top 2 teams will be counted): 1st: 10 points 2nd: 6 points There is no limit on the number of event(s) each swimmer may participate in. The team with the highest point in total will be the winner.
11 Table Tennis (Mixed) Number of participants: 8 Males and 8 Females Proposed Competition Format & Rules Best of 5 sets, 11 points in each set in 10 events: They are 1st single, 2nd single, 1st double, 2nd double and 3rd single in both gender. Each player can participate max in one single and one double. When there is a tie, a mixed double will be played. The team won 6 events or more will be the winner.

12 Taekwondo (Mixed) Number of participants: 6 Males and 5 Females Proposed Competition Format & Rules 2 competitions type: Fighting, Poomsae 6 males, 1 females for fighting Fighting will be won for most winners one Rule: Using 8 x 8 court, 4 judges, Will use the electric device to count the score if we can borrow the whole system from Macau Association, otherwise, we will use paper marking. Score: Following WTF rule, Body—normal kicking is 1 point; technique kicking is 2 point; punch is 1 point (with sound) Head—normal kicking is 3 point; technique kicking is 4 point Fault: Following WTF rule. 4 females for poomsae Poomsae Using the same court, 3 judges, Score: To separate 2 parts: Accuracy, performance. Accuracy: the right percentage of whole poomsae, 1 big wrong, 0.3, 1 small wrong 0.1 Performance: will separate to 2 parts—Attitude, face expression. Attitude: sound, power etc… Face expression. Lowest score will be 5.
