Reflection One of the most excellent means of obtaining perseverance is by discretion; we must not wish to do everything at once, or become a saint in four days, but gradually, little by little. St Philip Neri
“The way to God and the perfection demanded of us is shorter and more efficacious, markedly easier too, when one has learned, little by little, how to conserve, in all circumstances, a profound peace of heart. Because then the heart allows itself to be driven by the Holy Spirit, and God is able to do more with it by His grace than the heart could do by its own efforts. God is a God of peace. He does not speak and does not operate except in peace, not in trouble and agitation. Our discussion is not an invitation to laziness and inaction. It is an invitation to act, sometimes considerably, under impulse of the Holy Spirit, not in a spirit of disquietude, agitation or
excessive hurry." Searching For and Maintaining Peace: A Small Treatise on Peace of Heart, Fr Jacques Philippe.
Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration at St Elizabeth'’s Chapel Until August 15th, 2020 - Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Permanent Hours in need - please contact by email - adoration.brisbaneoratory@gmail.com
Mondays: 9:00am
Thursdays: 7:00am, 9:00am, 11:00am, 12:00noon
Fridays: 12:00 Midnight
Saturdays: 4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 10:00pm,
Sundays: 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 11:00am
Many would like the adoration at St Elizabeth’s to continue, but this will need people to join the team
and help with various jobs, for example, organising the roster, taking care of the phone, cleaning and
maintaining the chapel. A few people have come forward so far, but more are needed so that the work load can be
distributed. One week per month is all we are hoping everyone will need to do.
Please contact Linda Hodal by email adoration.brisbaneoratory@gmail.com. She will be happy to answer questions and
call to explain further if needed.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION A spiritual communion is a devotional practice whereby we exercise the mind and heart in desiring to receive Christ in the Holy Eucharist, either as a preparation for participation in the Mass, or when it is not possible to receive Holy Communion. Since Christ himself is the ultimate goal of every human desire, the value of a well made spiritual communion is very great. "When you do not receive Communion and you do not attend Mass, you can make a spiritual communion, which is a most beneficial practice; by it the love of God will be greatly impressed upon you." (St Teresa of Avila, the Way of Perfection, Ch35). St John Vianney taught that making a spiritual communion has an effect like that of blowing on embers to make them flame up again, so the love of God flames up in the heart by means of the spiritual communion. The most generally known form is that of St Alphonsus de Liguori:
"My Jesus, I believe that You are truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, please enter spiritually into my soul. I welcome you, I love and adore You, never permit me to be separated from You. Amen."

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A, 1st/2nd August, 2020
MASS READINGS First Reading: Isaiah 55:1-3
Thus says the Lord:
Oh, come to the water all you who are thirsty; though you have no money, come! Buy corn without money, and eat, and, at no cost, wine and milk. Why spend money on what is not bread, your wages on what fails to satisfy? Listen, listen to me and you will have good things to eat and rich food to enjoy. Pay attention, come to me; listen, and your soul will live. With you I will make an everlasting covenant out of the favours promised to David.
The Word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm 144
The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love. How good is the Lord to all, compassionate to all his creatures.
The eyes of all creatures look to you and you give them their food in due time. You open wide your hand, grant the desires of all who live.
The Lord is just in all his ways and loving in all his deeds. He is close to all who call him, call on him from their hearts. Second Reading: Romans 8:35.37-39
Nothing can come between us and the love of Christ, even if we are troubled or worried, or being persecuted, or lacking food or clothes, or being threatened or even attacked. These are the trials through which we triumph, by the power of him who loved us.
For I am certain of this: neither death nor life, no angel, no prince, nothing that exists, nothing still to come, not any power, or height or depth, nor any created thing, can ever come between us and the love of God made visible in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Gospel Acclamation:
Alleluia, alleluia! No one lives on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Alleluia!
Matthew 14:13-21
When Jesus received the news of John the Baptist's death he withdrew by boat to a lonely place where they could be by themselves. But the people heard of this and, leaving the towns, went after him on foot. So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them and healed their sick.
Gospel: Matthew 14: 13-21
When Jesus received the news of John the Baptist's death he withdrew by boat to a lonely place where they could be by themselves. But the people heard of this and, leaving the towns, went after him on foot. So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them and healed their sick.
When evening came, the disciples went to him and said, `This is a lonely place, and the time has slipped by; so send the people away, and they can go to the villages to buy themselves some food'. Jesus replied, `There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves'. But they answered, `All we have with us is five loaves and two fish'. 'Bring them here to me,' he said.
He gave orders that the people were to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing. And breaking the loaves he handed them to his disciples who gave them to the crowds. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they collected the scraps remaining, twelve baskets full. Those who ate numbered about five thousand men, to say nothing of women and children.
