Math Club Hosts Dinner with Professor Jeffrey Jauregui – by Frank Rocco
On Wednesday, November 2nd, the Math Club hosted a Dinner and Discussion in Beuth House regarding elections and polling featuring Professor Jeff Jauregui. Given the short amount of time until the next presidential election, students were eager to learn more about factors that affect a candidate’s chances of winning, the construction and adaptation of prediction models, and other forms of polling systems. Overall, the discussion was a wonderful way to discuss applications of mathematics to a current world situation.
Association of Women in Mathematics Holds Meet-and-Greet Event
On Thursday, October 27, the Association of Women in Mathematics (AWM) club held a dinner and a meet-and-greet in Sorum House, giving newer math majors and minors a chance to pick the brains of upperclass-math-students about everything math department related. Topics discussed included the petitioning process, to planning the major, to the thesis experience. Food from Homestyle Pizza was an added treat!
