• Global IV, CV measurements

• Fully automatic strip-by-strip

measurements performed by motorized

XYZ-table

• Cold chuck to test at different

temperatures

Goals are:

• Quality assurance for mass

production (e.g. CMS, soon Belle II)

• Report back to producer

• Select good sensors for module

production

Expertise: Beam Tests

Thomas Bergauer21 Oct. 2010

• Regular beam tests to test sensors and modules• Usually at CERNs SPS secondary

beam lines• In cooperation with HEPHY

electronics group and international colleagues (SiLC, EUDET)

• Different main goals:• 2008: resolution studies of sensors

with different layout (ILC)• 2009: performance of double metal

layers for routing purpose (CMS)• 2010: performance of double sided

sensors with different p-stop patterns (Belle II)

New Expertise: Neutron-Irradiation

Thomas Bergauer21 Oct. 2010

• Irradiation of silicon sensors at TRIGA Mark II nuclear reactor at ATI Vienna (“Atominstitut der TU Wien”)• Easy access• High neutron flux

• Test of silicon sensors:• For CMS upgrade R&D• n- vs. p-type substrate• Float zone vs. mCz vs. Epitaxial material

• First in-situ temperature measurement of nuclear reactor’s irradiation channels• Necessary to know for the understanding

of the annealing behavior in silicon sensors
