Objectives of Early Childhood

Education

Develop a positive self-concept. Establish a sound foundation for a good physique,

adequate muscular coordination and basic motor skills.

Imbibe good health habits and basic life skills/ self-help skills necessary for personal social adjustment.

Enhance verbal and non- verbal communication skills which would facilitate expression of thoughts and feelings in fluent, correct, clear speech.

Objectives of Early Childhood

Education Develop the five senses and cognitive skills and

concepts which are foundation for higher order

thinking and reasoning.

Develop emotional maturity by guiding the child to

express, understand, accept and control feelings and

emotions.

Imbibe values, social attitudes and manners important

in his/her socio cultural context and to become

sensitive to rights and privileges of others.

It should begin with a measurable action

It should present a broader plan of action

for the learners (month or year)

It is accompanied with specific objectives

Purposes of Objectives

By knowing where you intend to go, you increase the chances of you and the learner ending up there

Guides the teacher relative to the planning of instruction, delivery of instruction and evaluation of student achievement.

Guides the learner; helps him/her focus and set priorities

Allows for analysis in terms of the levels of teaching and learning

Purposes of Objectives

Additional purposes of objectives include:

Shows colleagues and students what we value.

Guide for the learner relative to self-assessment.

Basis for analyzing the level of cognitive thinking we are

expecting from the learner.

Makes teaching more focused and organized.

Provides models so that the students can write their own

objectives and thus helps develop an important life long

learning skill; “the setting

of objectives.”

Writing Goals Direction: Write at least one goal for each ECE Learning Standards: Personal Health and Safety Skills Social and Emotional Development Language Development and Communication

Skills Cognitive Development/Intellectual Abilities Approaches to Learning Motor Development

Writing Objectives Directions: From each learning goal, come up with three learning objectives. The first objective should be under the Cognitive domain, the second will be Psychomotor and the third, Affective Domain.

Example:

Learning Standard: Personal Health and Safety Skills

Learning Goal: Provide safety regulations for children inside the classroom

Learning Objectives:

Cognitive: Enumerate steps in the proper arranging of toys and school materials.

Psychomotor: Perform a role play on how to put toys and school materials back to their containers.

Affective: Show obedience and respect to other people by being helpful children.
