All DEUTA Multi-Functional Terminals consist of one baseboard
with all interfaces and the same integrated PC part. This concept
allows that your software can be easily ported to different device
types.
For solutions made to measure
Different display sizes as well as fieldbus or interface variants are
available depending on the application and the installation options.
Individual requirements are easily satisfied because DEUTA is a
single-source provider: from production via board assembly and
qualification to support. Our proven concept enables us to meet
even special requirements: in excellent quality at an attractive
price including high MTBF and optimised LCC values. Naturally,
only robust displays with high contrast and high brightness levels
are used for DEUTA Multi-Functional Terminals.

The structural shape less is more
Few components, few plug-type connectors, everything on one pc board. This
enables DEUTA to provide you with your individual configuration quickly and
reliably. The minor overall depth of DEUTA MFTs also makes them suitable for
special installation situations, such as in trams.
MTBF values higher is better
The processors DEUTA utilizes in the MFTs are characterised by high performance
at low power loss. Together with the structural shape, this results in low
self-heating and thus to an especially low thermal load. For you, this has a positive
effect of high MTBF values and low life cycle costs.
Obsolescence experience to make things better
As history shows, DEUTA has a functioning obsolescence concept. DEUTA
develops and produces customer-specific boards at their own company. This
specifically qualifies DEUTA to replace discontinued displays with their own
developments.

1994 The first step to reliable displays
As of 1994, DEUTA combined X86 processor
technology with an additional microcontroller
to monitor the operating conditions, such as
the environmental temperature. This was the
first step towards more reliable devices and
more flexible applications.
2002 The new generation:
durable and fast
DEUTA relies on the future-oriented MFT
Geode displays by 2002/2003. An embedded
AMD Geode PC processor and long-term
available components are utilized in the
single-board display. Moreover, DEUTA
stopped using moving components, such
as fans or hard disks as well as risky
components, such as CPU mainboards
from other manufacturers.
2005 The MTBF world record concept
Continuous optimization has led to today's
powerful and extremely reliable MFT
displays. The casing protection class was
improved by the middle of 2005. The displays
are now very flat and are characterised by a
high IP protection class. The positive
experiences with the first MFT Geode
generation formed the basis for the
development of an entire MFT Geode display
family.
2010 MFT S 11 with IconTrust
DEUTA sets new standards in the field
of safe data presentation with TFT
displays. IconTrust is a unique patented
safety concept. It allows correct display of
information in a defined area of DEUTAs
MFT. Since IconTrust is an independent
entity the overall system does not need to
be re-certified, if the visualisation needs to
be changed.

2000 Flexibility versus reliability
The displays for use in railway vehicles still
have a modular structure in the shape of
casing plug-in systems. Interfaces in the
devices can be configured more flexibly in
this way. But the concept requires a multitude
of plug connections, making the casing
considerably larger in size and dimension.
1997 A great advantage in computing power
As one of the first manufacturers of railway
displays, DEUTA utilized Intel Pentium processors
as of 1997, thus achieving noticeably increased
computing power.

IconTrust - You can trust.
From safe information to safe representation
The safe IconTrust circuitry monitors dedicated areas on the TFT
panel differentiating between safety-related and non safety-related
information. To display image areas with safety-related content,
the IconTrustconfiguration sets up monitoring areas rectangular
shape.
Up to 100 monitored areas on the TFT
IconTrust monitors more than 100 even overlapping areas
simultaneously and independently, and triggers the corresponding
safety-oriented response in case of deviations.
In each single TFT refresh cycle IconTrust ensures the displayed
image for each of the individual areas being analysed and compared
to the value of the respective input parameter. After each single
comparison the patented IconTrust is able to react and to ensure the
up-to-dateness and correctness of the information shown. Thereby,
in terms of safety case, the actual application for generating the
particular representation of information is not subject to any verifica-
tion, validation or final (re-)certification steps, which normally are
mandatory but extensive. Because of its architectural independence,
there are almost no limits to the applicability of IconTrust.
How safe are conventional TFT Panel PCs today?
The measures taken today with the attempt to safely display
information on TFT panels are both time- and cost-consuming but still
insufficient. Potential errors remain undisclosed. They might occur in
different parts of the system (for instance):
Corruption during data transmission
Errors in the visualisation software
Data corruption in the graphics memory
Corruption caused by the graphics processor
or its software
Unexpected behaviour of the operating system
TFT signals driver is hung-up
Microprocessor in error state
IconTrust the maximum in safety
IconTrust is the solution for all TFT panel PCs that must be safe and
must therefore satisfy a particular safety integrity level (SIL).
This includes displays in driver's consoles in trains, trams or under-
ground, and dispatching or controller equipment of railway systems.
People make their decisions based on what they read on the TFT displays;
these decisions impact both the safety and endangerment of people. If the
visualisation of process measurement values is corrupted, then accidents are
inevitable. Safety is only ensured, if correct information also is displayed
correctly and reliably. This is given by IconTrust technology.

Which input parameters does IconTrust monitor?
The IconTrust technologies may be used to monitor all types of
parameters or information that might be represented as symbols,
pointer instruments or bar graphs, letters, texts or even as a
kaleidoscope of colours. If necessary, it is also possible to permit
different screen presentations for one and the same value of the
input parameter (equivalent presentations). In addition, one may
also chose to configure an error counter to delay the trigger of the
safety-oriented response.
IconTrust The design
IconTrust can be integrated as an option within the DEUTA MFT
range. IconTrust is integrated in the MFT devices without
changing the dimensions or external interfaces and can only be
noticed from the appliance rating plate on the outside; the DEUTA
MFT S11 is equipped with IconTrust as a standard.
IconTrust as safety upgrade
As a rule, IconTrust can be easily retrofitted in displays and display
applications.
If the customer already uses more recent DEUTA display technol-
ogy, then a safety upgrade with IconTrust is simple and does
not require much effort.
Even in cases where the customer relies on PC technology
but not on the proven DEUTA technology, the application can be
ported to a DEUTA PC compatible platform and then upgraded
and backed-up with IconTrust.

Simply safer
Unlike conventional methods, IconTrust offers more safety
because the indicators in the safety-related area of a TFT precisely
present the determined values. The user immediately recognizes
any occurring deviations. The functional safety requirements can
be implemented and demonstrated up to the SIL4 level.
Significantly more exible
The type and layout of the presentation can flexibly and simply be
modified with IconTrust even in safety-related areas. If the
application is just being developed or adapted to a new require-
ment, safety can be reconfirmed without any time-consuming
qualification and certification process.

MFT 8/1 & MFT 9/1
An older design display will be replaced by a modern device.
The conventional display comprised several boards and cable
trees in the housing. This device no longer satisfied the reliability
currently expected of a display. The previous device version,
consisting of a keypad, a control, a changeover switch and wired
LEDs, represented a particular challenge. DEUTA developed a
completely compatible display that satisfies the highest require-
ments regarding reliability: The DEUTA MFT 9/1.
The MFT 8/1 was a Multi-Functional Terminal development that
was customized for a tram where the 6.5 of the MFT 5/1 was
too small and the 10.4 of the MFTL11 was too large. Whatever
size fits best in your train. Well find the right solution.

MFT 5/1 & MFT 6/1
Compact displays with 6.5" were deployed in trams and metro
projects already in the mid 1990s. The first MFD 5 was delivered
in 1996; the displays are in their third generation by now. The use
of the MFT 5 as successor to the MFD 5 virtually increases the
service life of the display. Thus, DEUTA now covers a delivery
period of 12 years with identically constructed displays the next
generation based on the latest processors is already being
planned.
The DEUTA MFT 6 with its 12.1 SVGA TFT display is the
largest in the DEUTA product range. You wont find anything else
that can present so much clear information.

Low maintenance design
This EBuLa Display does not make use of battery blocks or
moving parts such as blowers, CD ROM and hard drive making
the MFT 102 an almost maintenance free device. Only the flash
disk as well as background lighting need to be considered
depending on the area of application.
An environmental controller simplifies the operating time
diagnosis of the accumulator, the fan and the display. Using an
USB stick the operating conditions of individual subsystems can
be read out allowing for optional planning of maintenance
intervals. The presented screen contents and keyboard
configurations are stored continuously and can be read out
at any time.

EBuLaFor more exibility
The integrated PC104 interface makes it
easy to expand the system. The MFT 102 has an
additional Ethernet interface as well as one
internal and one external USB interface. Other
applications can use different operating systems
such as LINUX or QNXTM or WindowsTM versions.
The main application of the MFT 102 is the
EBuLa application that runs under the WIN XP
embedded operation system. The high perfor-
mance enables it to run other applications at
the same time.

The reduced installation depth of less than
100 mm saves space in the drivers console.
