Diabetic Diet Disasters

There are more than 25 million people in the US

living with diabetes.

That's a staggering number - greater than 8% of the

total population - and it's growing by the day.

With stats like that you'd figure we would be doing everything in our power

to curb this problem.

More specifically, we'd provide the public with as

much education to properly treat, and even avoid, this

largely preventable disease.

But apparently that's not the case.

What do I mean by that?

Well, I was in the supermarket the other day and the magazine, Diabetic Living, caught my eye.

Curiosity got the best of me so I decide to flip through it.

And what I encountered was pure horror (I kid you not).

Take a look at the following picture I snapped:

These foods, while delicious, are not healthful for anyone.

But for a diabetic especially, they're suicidal.

I'm completely shocked that a publication catering to this

group would make such horrible recommendations.

No wonder why this disease is running rampant.

Now, part of me thinks that they're just giving people

what they want (kind of like fat blocking soda).

After all, who's willing to give up their ice cream and chips?

So, perhaps they're picking out the better junk food of the

bunch and displaying it.

But that's the thing… diabetics need "tough medicine".

In fact, we all do lest we end up diabetic ourselves.

With that said, perhaps I'm giving the magazine too much credit. Maybe the publishers

are indeed that ignorant.

Those are all carb heavy foods. And what do carbs do

ladies and gentlemen?

They spike insulin.

That's a problem for anyone trying to get and stay fit, but for a diabetic, it just makes them more insulin resistant.

But what's the big deal? Can't they just inject insulin

and keep on eating this junk?

Sure, that's an option.

However, it's like adding fuel to a fire. Insulin, in large doses, is very harmful.

In fact, high levels of the hormone lead to

cardiovascular disease and can even cause cancer.

It has many more negative effects but you get the picture.

Of course, if you have uncontrolled diabetes,

it's a must to clear the sugar from your bloodstream.

But the point is to get the problem under control.

You should avoid the carbs in the first place so you don't need the injections.

That's the only way to reverse the insulin resistance and get

off the meds altogether

- by eating a healthy diet, not some junk food.

So, again, to the publishers of the magazine:

Shame on you!

Don't encourage sick people to dig their own graves - even

if that's what they want.

Take the high road and give them tough love.

By doing so, perhaps they'll reverse their diabetes so they

can actually enjoy some of those treats on a rare occasion.

Just saying…
