FEEL…Student Brainstorms

FEEL…Until, one day, they got excited about one idea:

“Miss,” they said, “we will EDUCATE the poor!”

FEEL…

Well….how are we going to do THAT?

And so, the IMAGINING begins!

IMAGINEThe girls decided they wanted to open the doors of Diamond Mission for ONE Sunday to any and all children who wanted to come, but particularly, those who were NOT in school. They decided to call it….

“Learning is FUN ” Day!

IMAGINENow, the girls had to think: “We invite children to the school…and then what do we do once they GET HERE?”

They brainstormed in small groups

IMAGINEAnd soon decided they would find creative, fun ways to share 5 subjects with the students! They were:

Genki Songs!(songs LKG/UKG students learn to help them learn English)

English Math

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE(deals with facts about India’s culture and history)

Hygiene

IMAGINEThe girls were broken into small groups, depending on which subject they wanted to teach and they prepared for over a MONTH. After all their hard work, they had to make sure children actually attended the event! So we went out into the community, and spread the word!

IMAGINE Community-canvassing continued

Before we knew it, the day of the program arrived! And children started to file in!

DO

The kids who attended the program ended up being a mixture of children from government or Urdu-Medium schools, children from Diamond Mission itself and some who did not attend school at all.

DO

And so, the program began! It started with an introduction in English and Urdu.

They did an INCREDIBLE job! In some ways, the confidence and creativity it pulled out of them was even more rewarding to see than the program itself. They were all awarded certificates for feeling, imagining and DOING something to inspire their community!
