Yamaha Network Switch Precautions
The two SWX2200 series models do not include the QoS function (DSCP based QoS with four absolute priority queues) recommended for Dante networks, but the switch load is so low (less than 50% of the used bandwidth) that QoS is not necessary where a dedicated gigabit network can be provided for the Dante system.
The two SWX2200 series models do not include the IGMP Snooping function recommended for Dante networks, but IGMP Snooping is not necessary where multicast flow is not used extensively.

Dante is a digital audio network protocol developed by the Audinate company of Australia. Based on IP networking and gigabit Ethernet, it allows low-latency transmission of multiple uncompressed audio channels via standard Ethernet cables and network switches.
Network Peripheral Guide
Innovative Network Based System SolutionsWith functionality that only an advanced network can provide, Dante enables sound system solutions that offer significant advantages over conventional approaches. One of the most notable benefits is that audio routing and connections between Dante capable devices can be designed and implemented independently from the physical cabling. In addition to being able to freely configure audio signal flow between Dante devices without being restricted by the number of physical cables available, input and output points can be added as required. Computer control and recording signals are carried over the same cables as the audio data, so audio and control are consolidated in one powerful network.
High Capacity for High Definition AudioA single gigabit link via CAT5e Ethernet cable can handle up to 512 bidirectional channels of 48 kHz/24 bit audio, for a total of 1,024 receive and transmit channels. If optical fiber is used the data can be transferred over distances of several kilometers. And since
all audio signals on the Dante network are digital, no signal degradation or loss occurs.
Flexible Network ConfigurationDante not only supports daisy chain and star network topologies, but allows the two to be combined for extraordinary flexibility in accommodating live sound systems, permanent installations, and an extensive range of other applications. Setup is easier and smoother, so installation times can be greatly reduced.
RedundancyMany Dante compatible devices come with dual network connections as a standard feature, for easy redundant network setup. If a problem occurs in the primary network or a related network switch, the secondary network automatically takes over so that the entire system continues to function without audio signal interruptions or noise. This type of setup is ideal wherever maximum reliability is required.
Precision Clock Sync and Low LatencyDante employs a PTP (IEEE1588 Precision Time Protocol) standard clock that is totally independent from the audio signal, achieving high-precision, sample-accurate synchronization. This contributes to extremely low-latency audio transmission as well as perfectly synchronized multi-channel audio between devices and networks via network switches. And since different receive latencies can be specified for devices within the same Dante network, it is possible to create network zones with different receive latencies to match the needs and scale of the system.
Future ReadySince Dante is based on standard network protocols, it can take full advantage of the functionality provided by existing network devices to create exceptionally flexible, reliable digital audio networks that do not impose performance limitations. It is also ready to support new protocol standards such as AVB and AES67, providing compatibility with future developments in network technology.

Two Ri8-D input rack units and two Ro8-D output rack units are connected to an LS9-16 console fitted with a Dante-MY16-AUD expansion card via an SWX2200-8G Smart L2 Switch. This provides the console with an additional 16 mic/line input channels and 16 line output channels. The Ri8-D microphone preamplifiers can be remotely controlled from the console via Dante. Dante Virtual Soundcard allows multitrack recording to a computer based DAW at the same time.
A QL series console is connected to two computers via an SWX2200-8G Smart L2 Switch for a simple recording system. Dante Virtual Soundcard directly routes the QL1 microphone and line inputs to the computer based multitrack DAW after the preamplifier gain stage, without going through the consoles input channels. Two computers can be connected, as shown in the example, to provide a backup recording system.
The VLAN capability of an SWX 2200-8G is used to set up separate networks for Dante and control signals.
Up to 64 mic/line input channels from the QL5 console and Rio3224-D I/O rack can be routed to the CL5 console via Dante, and the CL5 mix can then be sent back to the QL5 and Rio3224-D for output.
An SWX2200 series switch in the recording booth can route audio from the network to multiple computers for multitrack recording via Dante Virtual Soundcard and/or Dante Accelerator cards.
A Wireless Access Point allows a tablet computer running the CL StageMix application to connect to the network for remote CL5 control or Dante Accelerator cards.
An SWX2200-8G allows a simple Dante network configuration. The MTX5-D receives up to eight mic/line inputs for processing and output,
either directly to XMV-D power amplifiers or to standard power amplifiers via an Ro8-D output rack.
A versatile, user-friendly control environment can be designed using DCP series control panels installed in appropriate locations.
VXS/VXC series speakers and XMV-D power amplifiers are capable of Lo-Z and Hi-Z operation, and it is even possible to combine Lo-Z and Hi-Z operation to flexibly meet just about any system requirements.
The MTX Editor application running on a computer connected to the Dante network allows convenient monitoring and control of the MTX5-D and XMV-D units.
Detailed Dante settings can be programmed via the Dante Controller application.
A gigabit switch can be added for redundant network connections. A Wireless Access Point allows a tablet computer or smartphone running
the Wireless DCP application to connect to the network for remote MTX5-D control.
