Session Outline•Walk around your outdoor learning environment with the children and discover the eggs. What does the egg feel like? What do the children think will be inside? Who left the eggs? How can we help them to hatch without hurting what’s inside?
• Encourage the children to be imaginative and creative with their ideas and stories behind the eggs. Can they use natural materials around them to try to get the egg to hatch?
• You could provide the children with age-appropriate hammers & also pipettes with salted water to try. Encourage them to discuss and explain their choice of method.
Differentiation: HA- Use imaginative & creative language when discussing the dinosaur egg.LA- Help with managing their own safety & prompts for free play if needed.
Extension: Once the children have managed to get their dinosaur out, encourage them to show empathy to their baby dinosaur and allow free-play. Can they make some dinosaur food? Can they make it a mini-home? What could they show their baby dinosaur?
