DO I HAVE TERMITES IN MYOKLAHOMA CITY HOME?

onswat.com

In Oklahoma City, you will likely see swarmingtermites from early March through the middle

of June, with the climax in April.

FIRST SIGN OF TERMITES

The swarmers, but just because you see one,you should not assume you have aninfestation.

A “swarmer,” or Alate, is a winged reproductivetermite, both male and female.

When they have matured, swarmers fly awayand pair off to find a new colony of their own.

If you see unattached wings around your home, this indicates they have chosen that location toattempt to build a colony.

After swarmers nest, they assume the role asking and queen. You will likely never see themagain.

Move your attention to workers and soldiers.Neither will be winged. The workers, especially, may occasionally be seen foraging for newfood and water.

Look for them where moist wood exists. If yousee a worker, you probably have an infestation.

SECOND SIGN OF TERMITES

Mud tunnels built by the termites. These are atelltale sign of an actual infestation.

Mud tunnels protect them from sunlight andpredators and they use these tunnels to travelto and from new food, water and shelter.

THIRD SIGN OF TERMITES

Another sign is hollow-sounding wood and gapsin wood.

The hollow wood and gaps in the wood couldalso be ants, but either way, they must beeradicated to protect your home.

FOURTH SIGN OF TERMITES

Fecal droppings from termites. This is a veryimportant sign since it is one of the mostvisible signs of termites.

They do this by creating an exit hole from theirtunnels and pushing out a sand-likematter, which has a tan to black color.

If you see any of these signs in your home, youneed to immediately call a pest controlprofessional to provide an opinion on atreatment.
