1. Not only can you disobey, you must disobey.

2. A Law is “unjust” if it is “immoral”- but morals based on natural or eternal law

PROBLEMS1. Based on Natural Law or

Eternal Law that is religious.

2. Not everyone has the same morals.

3. Putting personal conscience ahead of the society’s conscience. (Your VALUES ahead of the country’s.)

Civil Disobedience-refusal to obey laws as a way of forcing the government to do or change something.

One of the methods used by the Civil Rights Movement to end segregation and discrimination.

Socrates:• Thought about nature, science, people and government.

•The government of Athens convicted him of not following the gods of the time and for corrupting youth with his ideas. He was sentenced to death.

Socrates:

• Instead of speaking out against the unjust laws, he supported them.

•Voluntarily drank a poison called “Hemlock”.
