Earth’s Axis
• The earth is tilted on its axis 23.5o. This means that some parts of the earth will receive more sunlight that other parts.
• The earth also revolves around the sun. So the amount of sunlight that the northern and southern hemispheres receive will change throughout the year.
The Earth’s tilt on its axis and its orbit around the Sun cause the Seasons.
Why do we have Seasons?• Rotation: spinning motion of an object around it’s
axis• Revolution: the movement of one object around
another object.• Tilt of Earth’s Axis: 23.5 degrees
Why does the Earth’s tilt impact the seasons?
• Sunlight hits the hemisphere that is tilted towards the sun MORE DIRECTLY.
• This is why the hemisphere tilted towardthe sun experiences summer

The length of days• Days are longer during the summer because the
hemisphere is titled toward the sun – this hemisphere receives MORE sunlight.
