No people can rise above their concept of

God, that God is for us the highest ideal and

the greatest example. If we have a faulty

view of God that means that we absolutely

suffer in every way because we lack a

correct understanding of what God is like,

and subsequently, what we are to be like.

What is the Trinity?

The word was perhapsfirst used by the earlychurch father Tertullianwho lived 155 to 220AD. And it was used,rather, in an effort tosummarize the totalityof biblical teachingregarding who God is.

Trinity is one God who eternally exists as

three distinct persons, Father, Son, and

Spirit, who are each fully and equally God.

Two Truths about the Trinity

There is one God.

(1) plural and collective

The Father, Son, and Spirit are God.

God creates everything.

He is the beginning of everything

God is the SOURCE everything.

have not lied to men but to God.”

the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the

Father will send in my name, will teach you all

things and will remind you of everything I

have said to you. Peace I leave with you;

my peace I give you. I do not give to you as

the world gives. Do not let your hearts be

troubled and do not be afraid.

1. There’s one God.

2. God The Father is God.

3. God The Son is God.

4. God The Holy Spirit is God.

IMPORTANT NOTES ON TRINITY

GOD DOESN’T NEED US.

Within the very Trinitarian nature of God there was perfect love – relationship, friendship,

harmony, unity, communication.

Does the Trinity appear in the

Old Testament?

GENESIS 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens

and the earth.

GENESIS 1:26

Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our

image, in our likeness, so that they may rule

over the fish in the sea and the birds in the

sky, over the livestock and all the wild

animals, and over all the creatures that move

along the ground."

GENESIS 11:7

Come, let us go down and confuse their

language so they will not understand each

other."

ISAIAH 61:1

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on

me, because the LORD has anointed me to

proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent

me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim

freedom for the captives and release from

darkness for the prisoners,

Does the Trinity appear in the

New Testament?

LUKE 1:35

The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will

come on you, and the power of the Most

High will overshadow you. So the holy one

to be born will be called the Son of God.

MATTHEW 3:16-17

After being baptized, Jesus came up

immediately from the water; and behold, the

heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit

of God descending as a dove and lighting on

Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens

said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am

well-pleased.”

1 PETER 1:2

who have been chosen according to the

foreknowledge of God the Father, through

the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be

obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with

his blood: Grace and peace be yours in

abundance.

Council of Nicea in

325 AD, Council of

Constantinople in 381

AD where, again, the

Bible teachers get

together and they lay

down the doctrine of

the Trinity.

Augustine of Hippo.

And from 400 to 419

– he spent 19 years

studying the doctrine

of the Trinity.

Three ways to contradict the doctrine

of the Trinity

Some would say there is not one God.

(Many Gods that leads to heaven)

(1)

polytheism, where there’s multiple gods, or tritheism, where there are three gods.

The other way you can error is to deny that God the Father, God the Son, and

God the Spirit are not three distinct persons.

This is called Modalism, or Oneness orJesus Only

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is

one (echad = to unite as one )

Genesis 22:2

He said, "Take your son, your only son (yachid –

singular one) Isaac, whom you love, and go to the

land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering

on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

To deny that the Father, Son, and Spirit are equally God.

Facts about the Trinity

It’s Trinitarian.

(1)So now all of our life is Trinitarian: all of my worship, all of my prayer, all of my service, all of my ministry is by the Spirit, through the Son, to the Father. That’s all of life.

Trinitarian is loving.

Trinitarian is communal.

Trinitarian is transparent.

Trinitarian is humble.

Trinitarian is submissive.
