The main objective of the third National Education Goal isfor all students to be competent in academic subject matter, while the fifthNational Education Goal is for U.S. students to be able to perform atworld-class levels in mathematics and science. This report summarizes theprogress each state has made toward Goal 3--the students' achievement andcitizenship goal, and Goal 5--the mathematics and science goal, withparticular emphasis placed on mathematics and science achievements inWisconsin. It is concluded that the majority of states participating inNational Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) assessments have madeprogress toward Goal 3 in mathematics. (ASK)
