Disinfect extended cuff outer gloves before opening the door of patient room using
bleach wipes. Engage trained observer in proper PPE.
Inspect PPE for visible contamination, cuts, or tears.
All contaminated PPE should be placed in a leak-proof infectious waste container.
Disinfect outer gloves with bleach wipes or ABHR. Perform hand hygiene.
Remove boot OR shoe covers one at a time while sitting down.
Grasp outside of boot or SHOE cover and pull down towards ankle. Discard boot OR shoe covers.

Disinfect inner gloves with bleach wipes or ABHR. If visibly contaminated, remove inner
gloves, perform hand hygiene on bare hands, and don a clean pair of gloves.
Remove face shield. Tilt your head slightly, grab the strap at the temples and pull it forward
and over your head and discard. Avoid touching front surface of face shield.
Disinfect gloves with bleach wipes or ABHR.

Remove surgical gown. Ties should be untied if possible to reduce aerosolization. Keep clean
gown sleeves over gloved hands as much as possible to prevent contamination. Pull gown away from
body, rolling inside out, touching only the insides of the gown. Discard gown.
Disinfect gloves with bleach wipes or ABHR.
Remove surgical hood. Tilt your head slightly, grasp at the crown of the head,
and use one hand to pull the hood forward, away from the body, and off the head. Discard hood.
Trained Observer may assist with directing removal of hood.
Disinfect gloves with bleach wipes or ABHR.

Remove inner gloves and discard.
Perform hand hygiene on bare hands. Don clean pair of gloves.
Remove N95 respirator. Tilt head slightly forward and grasp bottom elastic strap and then top
elastic strap. Pull over head to remove without touching front of N95 respirator. Discard N95 respirator.
Disinfect gloves with bleach wipes or ABHR.

Disinfect washable shoes with bleach wipes, wiping down all external surfaces of shoes.
Disinfect gloves with bleach wipes or ABHR. Remove gloves and discard.
Perform hand hygiene on bare hands.
Trained Observer performs final inspection of healthcare worker for contamination.
Proceed to shower if healthcare personnel performed high-risk patient care or spent extended
periods of time in infected patient’s room. Post-exposure medical assessment, including post-vital
signs and discussion about concerns with care protocols.
