ANTIGUA & BARBUDA

By 2030, 100% of electricity demand in the water sector1 and other

essential services (including health, food storage and emergency services)

will be met through off-grid renewable sources.

Presently we have 10 MW, RE installation in progress which includes:

• 3 MW PV system which will offset 75% of the energy demand at the new

International airport.

• 4 MW PV system at Bethesda.

• 2 MW installation for public buildings (Presently 1 MW is installed

already).

• 2 Thousand Solar Lights are being installed on the roads. Grant for

Chinese Government

• 14500 LED Street Lights. CDB Funded Project

Government of Antigua & Barbuda INDC targets:

MOUNT ST. JONH’S MEDICAL CENTRE

3 MW PV system at the new International Airport.

Renewable Energy Target:

• Install 25MW of RE by 2030 with a mixture of wind & solar energy.

Areas of installation:

• Hospital.

• Clinics.

• Department of Environment.

• Reverse Osmosis Plant.

Development of partnerships with APUA has allowed activities like roof

bearing loads assessments, evaluation of buildings design and

installation of the solar systems to take place seamlessly. All buildings

had to have their electrical system redone and retrofitted.

A youth group pioneering a community cistern construction of

100,000 gallons and using the solar system to operate the pump and

provide lighting to the church.

Vibrant Faith Ministries Solar launch- a pledge to the

A local church surrounded by tress and located in the forest

demonstrates and practices sustainable living practices. Youth

engagement is a key priority.

Hydroponics at Precision Center powered by Solar

Energy

Precision center Hydroponics farm powered by solar. A committed group

of members who also planted 900 fruit trees on 11 acres and through an

innovative 3 day watering schedule has maintained the tress through the

drought going into 3 years. They are selling 1500 heads of lettuce

weekly on the local market.

Solar public and partnerships

• Grant funding from GEF/SGP has enabled 8

churches, ngo’s and schools to integrated solar

energy into their project activities. The support by

the OAS and DOE, has enabled 10 structures in

communities to access systems. This public

private partnership involves APUA, DOE, CDD ,

Energy and local installers who assisted with the

roof bearing loads assessments, design and

installation of the systems. 2 national consultations

were held
