it is of no surprise to most that live and visit Kamloops that we are such a special community. our spirit and our dedication to families, food security, recreation and beautification really set us apart from other cities and mu-nicipalities, not only throughout british Columbia but the world. The greatness of Kam-loops definitely does not stop there; we are this and so
much more. it is for these very reasons that Kamloops always does particularly well in the Communities in bloom program.
“Kamloops Communities in Bloom is more than just flow-ers,” explains gay pooler who co-chairs the Kamloops Commu-
nities in bloom committee along with general
manager of
the bC wildlife park, glenn grant.” “it is about getting peo-ple involved in making their community a better place to live, to work and to visit! The Kam-loops Communities in bloom Committee is committed to fos-tering civic pride, envi-ronmental responsibil-ity and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national competi-tion, with focus on the promotion and value of green spaces within urban settings.”
Through hard work, dedica-tion and an obviously wonderful community, Kamloops has won several Communities in bloom competitions. we have two national titles under our belt, have an inter-national title, are a winter Lights win-ner and have just finished our reign of Canada’s best blooming Communi-ty. Coming off our na-tional win we were able to enrol in the international compe-tition this year and the commit-tee has been working hard gath-ering and documenting all the great things that Kam-
loops residents have been doing in order to showcase them to the Communities in bloom interna-tional judges and jury. The com-petition judges our entire com-munity on eight key Criteria; Tidiness, environmental action,
heritage Conservation, urban Forestry, Land-
scaped areas, Turf and groundcov-ers, Floral displays and Community in-volvement.“we work hard
year round, not just when the flowers are
blooming,” continues gay. “people, plants and
pride… growing together” is the Communities in bloom slogan and it captures the essence of the
program. The Communi-ties in bloom Com-
mittee host numer-ous events including planter competi-tions, seasonal cele-brations, Kia drive Change days, neigh-
bourhood cleanups, graffiti paint outs and
much more. Last year we mentored neighbouring commu-nity Logan Lake, helping them achieve a four bloom status and helping them improve their com-
