Driving to Southern Ocean Lodge

From Penneshaw Ferry Terminal (90 Min/130 km):See A on Map• Drive up the hill from the ferry terminal and along the

coast to the right. • Stay on the Hog Bay Road, passing both the

Pelican Lagoon on your right and the turn off toAmerican River. Continue on until you reach a “T” junction. This is the intersection with ElsegoodRoad and is 48 km from the ferry.

• At this point turn right and almost immediately leftonto Arranmore Road.

• After 4 km the Kingscote Airport is on your left. The airport has excellent public facilities which areopen in daylight hours.

• Follow directions from Kingscote Airport.

From Kingscote Airport (50 Min/80 km):See B on Map• Drive out of the airport and turn left onto

Arranmore Road. Less than a kilometre down the roadyou will come to a “T” junction – turn left.

• The Playford Highway becomes the Birchmore Highwayand then the South Coast Road.

• After 44 km you will come to Vivonne Bay where thereis a General Store on the left.

• Continue heading west for another 30 km when youwill come to Hanson Bay Road on the left – there is a blue “Southern Ocean Lodge” sign on the street post. Up until this point the road has been a high standard sealed road. Hanson Bay Road is unsealed and can be corrugated and dusty.

• After 3.5 km the main entrance gate to SouthernOcean Lodge will be obvious on the right. Simplypress the intercom button and you will be connectedto the Lodge reception for entry.

• It is then a short 3 km drive through the coastal bushto the luxurious wilderness refuge, Southern OceanLodge.

have a generous supply.• Watch for wildlife on the road:

– dawn and dusk - feeding time– night - travelling time– day - sleeping time

• Drive carefully as many Island roads are unsealed.• Kangaroo Island is a rural community so you may

find farm machinery, trucks, and even sheep andcattle being moved on the roads.

• In short – expect the unexpected.
