The start of a new year is a perfect opportunity to renew meaningful commitments in our lives – like the ones we make in our work with children and families. GRECS is committed to a future in which the early childhood profession is recognized as vitally performing a critical role in society. Here are some ideas to foster your professional renewal:Your work is powerful! Stop & listen to the parents and children in your program. Hear what your peers are saying in meetings & training classes. There is power in your profession! Own it!Research confirms the value of playful learning. Read about & take classes to further explore guided play and its role in children’s learning. Take a look around. Observe the children in your care. Put new ideas that you learn in training classes into practice and watch what happens. Reveal your inner leader! Our profession needs emerging leaders. Get involved and volunteer in community programs. Seek out leadership opportunities in your center. Mentor someone new to the profession.Be an advocate. Champion developmentally appropriate practice’s academic rigor with principals and elementary education professionals in your community. American voters strongly support higher wages for early childhood educators. New research highlights widespread support for making invest-ment in the early childhood education profession a national priority. Be intentional about learning more and sharing that information.Engage families! You’ll find convenient, copyright free information on GRECS’ website. Need some-thing on a specific topic? There is also an archive of “Pass Along to Parents” on the GRECS website. Download and print them as often as needed!Renew your commitment to anti-bias education. More and more we see how our perceptions are passed on from one generation to the next. Commit to set forth values-based principles and methodol-ogy in support of respecting and embracing differences and acting against bias and unfairness in early childhood education.Flex your political muscles! When it comes to families and children, there is always more work to be done! Join an advocacy group such as Alabama Association for Early Care & Education (AALECE) or VOICES for Alabama’s Children and learn about the issues affecting our industry on a local, state and national level
Renew Your Commitment to Professionalism in 2019!

Little Artists: Encouraging Early Art - Little Artist is a training designed to bring art into the infant and toddler classroom in a fun and safe way. By making this connection through the use of PBS Kids programs, hand-on activities and books, the participants will explore how math literacy can be fostered within daily routines that support the cognitive and language development of young children. (APT Instructor; AL Pathways: LEE, ICFC; DHR: CD, LD, CCPF; CDA: 2, 4, 8; CCDF: 13, 16, 19; Basic Training Level; 2 hours/0.2 CEUs; Age Group: Preschool) February 20, 2019; 6:00pm - 8:00pm; GRECS Training Room, Mobile

Math with Infants and Toddlers - This training will teach participants how to lay a core foundation of basic math skills and knowledge for infants and toddlers through everyday encounters with their children. Topics will include concepts such as shapes and spatial relations, measurement, and numbers. Magical Sensory Play with Infants and Toddlers - Sensory experiences tell us who we are and where we are. The accumulation of images seen and heard, tasted, touched and smelled build a complex image of surroundings in a small child’s mind. The senses constantly guide, stimulate, and reward the actions of the child. Senses and developmental skills cooperate; neither can function without the other. Workshop participants will learn the many ways that sensory play promotes growth in all the developmental domains -- cognitive, physical, social-emotional -- and how they can use sensory experiences to support early learning for infants and toddlers. (Savannah Partin; AL Pathways: LEE, CGD; DHR: CD, LD; CDA: 2, 8; CCDF: 13, 20; Basic Training Level; 2 hours / 0.2 CEUs; Age Group: Infants, Toddlers) January 15, 2019; 5:45pm - 7:45pm; Daphne Public Library, Daphne AND March 12, 2019; 6:00pm - 8:00pm; GRECS Training Room, Mobile
