Easter is a very important

holiday in Poland. Holy Week

begins on Palm Sunday. On this

day people bring Easter palms to

the church .

Before Easter people prepare

traditional „pisanki” –

coloured eggs with handcraft

ornaments.

On Easter Saturday

people take food to church to be blessed.

In the basket there is

meat, bread, eggs, salt and cake.

A traditional Easter Meal starts around

noon and it consist of hard-boiled eggs, cold meat and salads. At the end of the meal

people often eat cheesecake, mazurkas and Easter Cake. After

meal children go outside and look for

presents and chocolate eggs. Next, people go to church

for Mass.

On Wet Monday people go

outside and pour water on one another.

This tradition is called

’’śmigus-dyngus”.

People like Easter
