Why did we create effect?
Demand from managers and organizational consultants
Many team inventories – none particularly designed for MTs
Most inventories restricted to oneparticular team theory
Often shaky research base

The research behind effect 2.0
Research project “Effectiveness in management teams” at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo, Norway (2001-today), led by Dr. Henning Bang
Three main research questions: ▪ What kind of results do effective management teams create?
▪ Which factors influence the quality of these results?
▪ What questions do we have to ask to measure the quality of a management team’s results and the factors that influence these results?
Based on international research on management teams and decision making teams from 1970-2016
Own research on ca. 300 Norwegian and Danish management teams

The research project has generated:
▪ A number of publications▪ 1 doctoral thesis
▪ 2 text books
▪ 17 Master’s theses
▪ 8 published articles and reports
▪ A team effectiveness model that describes▪ 5 basic conditions necessary for team effectiveness (input)
▪ 12 critical processes influencing team effectiveness (process)
▪ 7 indicators of team effectiveness (output)
▪ An online questionnaire – effect 2.0 – that measures these 24 factors
▪ Statistical analyses of effect on 215 management teams (1332 managers)
▪ At the same time, organizational psychologists Henning Bang and Thomas NessetMidelfart have tested the model in practice by assisting over 100 management teams in their development.

Recommendations This section of the report lists the management team’s five most prominent strengths, as well as five areas to improve team effectiveness. The strengths and weaknesses are the five factors with the highest and lowest average scores, respectively, as rated by the management team members.
Possible team strengths you can build on:
• Balanced team composition. Compared to other management teams, your team is particularly strong in having members with the appropriate competencies and a balanced mix of people. Team members have the necessary professional and interpersonal skills to achieve high quality results together and become a well-functioning management team. They seem to represent a good mix of knowledge, abilities, skills, personalities, values, and attitudes. They elicit the best from each other, are diverse enough to supplement and stimulate the team, and similar enough to understand and interact well together.
