Consultation of NIDOS member organisations – clear demand for a Small Organisations self-assessment toolkit

2010Development and launch of pilot NIDOS Effectiveness toolkit, through member working group

2011 and 2012 Review and re-launch of improved NIDOS toolkit Collaboration with Bond on Improve It and IATI

Why a small organisations toolkit?

• In 2009-10 - effectiveness standards were largely developed by and for large organisations – e.g. HAP, SPHERE, People in Aid etc

• NIDOS members are largely small organisations and these standards were not suitable for their needs

• There was a clear demand from members for a simpler tool, for self-assessment

New NIDOS toolkit

From the review, members asked for: • Even simpler tool for small organisations• More focus on operational issues, not just

principles• Quick ‘basic check’ stage to start

New tool is 2 stage: 1. MOT 2. Full Assessment

Stage 1: MOT

Stage 2: Full Assessment

MOT is now availableFull Assessment to follow in 2013

Bond Health Check• Through the Bond Effectiveness Programme, Bond

has developed a Health Check tool – similar in purpose to the NIDOS Effectiveness Toolkit, through consulting their members

• Bond’s Health Check is more comprehensive and likely to be suitable for bigger and more complex organisations but can be used by any sized organisation

• For those wanting to check it out www.bond.org.uk/pages/self-assessment-tool.html
