Electricity is…

the flow of electrons.

An electron is a tiny particle thatmoves around the outside of anatom.

Everything is made of tiny, tiny, things called atoms.

A circuit is … a path for electricity to follow.

A circuit must be closed for theelectrons to flow through it. If the circuit is open, the electronscannot move through.

In a series circuit, everything is connected in a single path tothe power source. If one light in the circuit goes off, everything else will go off, too.

In a parallel circuit, everythinghas its own pathway to thepower source. If one light in a parallel circuit goes out, everything else will stay on.

Incandescent vs. LED Bulbs

Incandescent bulbs have a small wire inside called a filament.

Electricity can move easilythrough materials called conductors.

Some materials are called insulators. Insulators keep electricity from flowing.

Electricity can move easilythrough materials called conductors. Most metals are good conductors.

Some materials are called insulators.Insulators keep electricity fromflowing. Rubber, plastic, and glass are good insulators.
