Abella, Dominique MichelleBaquiano, Paolo Miguel Dimalen, Joshua KhaliLagura, KathreenaMancia, Abigail Faye Otadoy, John RaphaelTabao, Princess Nadzmyra Xyza

Objectives of the Study

• provide lighting facilities in dark areas

• significantly bring down electricity bills (by at least 10%)

• inspire people to further save on the use of electricity

• help save the planet’s resources• help the country’s economy• help people live in a healthy

environment

Electricity-Saving Scheme

• A Solar-Powered Bulb will be used instead of one lighting device in the morning

• Nine (9) Energy Saving Acts• “Unplug Me” tags will be

placed above outlets to serve as reminders

An innovation: A Solar-Powered Bulb• invented by Alfredo Moser, a Brazilian

engineer;• alternative to electricity-consuming light

bulbs;• made of an empty 1.5 liter soda bottle with

liquid bleach and purified water;• reflects the sunlight to the interior of the

household;• provide lighting during daytime in slum areas;• expected to last up to two (2) years before

change is needed;• tested and shown to produce as much light as

a 50 W incandescent bulb.

Solar-Powered Bulb

Nine (9) Energy Saving Acts• Use big appliances wisely;• Avoid standby mode in computers and

televisions;• Use the microwave to reheat the food  instead  of

the stove;• Clean the condenser coil of their fridge;• Cool liquids and food and cover them when

putting them in the fridge;• Position lamps between two corners;• Always keep the filters of the air conditioner and

refrigerator clean;• Defrost the ice in their freezer when it is ¼ inch

thick;• Position the fridge  away from any source of heat

and create a 5 inch space all around the fridge.

Experimentation• Four members of our team recorded

meter readings every Monday morning for 6 weeks;

• The subjects applied the methods explained and shown above;

• The control group and the trial group are included;

• The control groups are the weeks wherein we did not apply any of our saving scheme;

• The experimental groups are our trial weeks wherein we applied our saving scheme.

Conclusion

• Based on observation (16.4%, 12.4% and 17%), we can conclude that there’s a significant decrease in electricity bills with the combined saving scheme:

1. Use of solar-powered bulb in mornings;

2. Application of nine saving tips and

3. Use of “Unplug Me” Tips
