Essential Questions:
1. How can we get better at understanding what we read?
2. How can we enjoy what we read more3. What does the author want us to
learn from reading the book?4. Is this book a mirror or a window?

fiction!
Who is your favorite character?
What is a character?
The characters in a story can be people or animals.
There is one main character in the story. This character has some kind of problem
he/she experiences throughout the story.
It's TWO things!
What is a setting?
It's the place andtime period when the story takes place.
What is a plot?
Plot is what thecharacters experience
in the story.
What is point of view?
Point of view is the viewpoint of the story.
Writers use first person point of view or third
person point of view. In first person point of view,
the main character tells the story. In third person point of view, the narrator tells
the story.
What is theme?
A theme is the main idea of the story. When writers have
a story's main idea, they have a specific message they want to reveal to readers.
Fiction has mirrors and windows.
Think of your own mirror or window!
Write the name of your favorite fictional
character and WHY you like them. Is it a mirror
