Outreach Educational Programme: Overview

• ELSA, is the leading surgical association of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons in the Asia-Pacific region. It is our vision and responsibility to promote clinical excellence in endo-surgery through education, research, collaboration and advocacy.

• ELSA is dedicated to this purposes since 1992 through dedicated educational programme, Annual Congress, Workshops, establishing of Centre of Excellence as Forum for exchange in knowledge and as platform for interdisciplinary discussion in Asia. Since was established, it has a membership of more then 1500 surgeons from 37 Asian countries represented through the Board of Governors.

Outreach Educational Programme: Objective

•Objective of this programme is to identify and train, Surgeons with interest in MIS in Asian developing countries. •These Surgeons will become leader and train the younger and future generation of Surgeons •Ultimately to provide a better patient’s care through development of minimally invasive surgery.

Outreach Educational Programme: TRAIN-the-TRAINER

The programme will consist of different steps: •Basic Surgical Skill Courses for all local doctors including minimally invasive surgery and if resources are available setup of a EndoSurgery Skill Lab in the Local Medical Schools. This will allow more residents and surgeons to be trained with regular teaching activities. ELSA will provide the training platform and expertise through his own Experts. •Advanced Surgery Workshops and Proctoring: where the most dedicated surgeons can further improve their skills in order to learn more advanced surgical skills and procedures. The Course will be organized in the local Teaching Hospital. Once The ELSA Faculty have created the condition will start Proctoring the Local Future Trainees in Basic and Advanced Surgical Procedure •Occasionally the Local Champion can attend International Workshops organized overseas and ELSA will support his participation •The best of the trainer will be identified and offer a 6-12 months Training Programme with Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery in ELSA Centre of Excellence
