RESEARCH QUESTIONS What were the sources of energy in the

past? When were the first lamps installed? How did street lamps change? How do nuclear power plants work? How is the power of the river Nitra used? What do people mostly use for heating? How does insulation help? What alternative sources of energy are

suitable Nitra?

HOW DO NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS WORK?

•It begins when uranium is mined, enriched and transpotred into nuclear fuel, which is delivered to a nuclear power plant.

•After usage in the power plant, the spent fuel is delivered to a reprocessing plant or to a place for geologic trash.

• In recycling, 95% of spent fuel can be recycled to be returned to usage in a power plant.

HEATING People in Nitra heat their

homes with gas or electricity.

Gas is taken from Slovak gas industrial building near Nitra in Ivánka pri Nitre.

Gas is tranported by pipeline.

NITRA IS LOOKING FOR ALTERNATIVE SOURCES OF ENERGY

Solar energy, biogas or energy from thermal springs – these are the most realistic alternative sources of energy for the town according to Jozef Dvonč, the Nitra major.

The Energy Agency was estabilished by Nitra‘s self-administration with the finnancial suport of 250 000 € from the EC Program.

It‘s going to deal with possibilities of their usage.

POEMNitra is a big city,it saves elecricity. We use nuclear power,we love Nature our mother. We heat with renewable sources,we use another nature forces, because we don‘t have any seas.
