Effective English planning and teaching: using rich texts to plan productive teaching sequences
Providing NQTs with an overview of proven successful strategies to inspire and enable writers, delegates will explore: selecting quality texts; using models for writing effectively; shared writing; drama and role play; oral rehearsal. Strategies to embed key writing skills will all be addressed within the context of the teaching sequence for writing. £150 (£170) Key Stage 1: 17NQT/042P / 31st October 2017 / 9am - 4pm Lower Key Stage 2: 17NQT/044P / 29th November 2017 / 9am - 4pm Upper Key Stage 2: 17NQT/045P / 6th December 2017 / 9am - 4pm
Effective mathematics planning: unpicking the learning to secure progress
Training focussed on getting the planning right for mathematics to ensure meaningful sequences of learning are taught well. The Teaching Standards which NQTs aim to meet of ‘demonstrating good subject and curriculum knowledge’ and ‘planning and teaching well-structured lessons’ will be well supported by attending this training. £150 (£170) Key Stage 1: 17NQT/040P / 8th November 2017 / 9am - 4pm Lower Key Stage 2: 17NQT/041P / 13th November 2017 / 9am - 4pm Upper Key Stage 2: 17NQT/043P / 23rd November 2017 / 9am - 4pm
Courses developed specifically for NQTs and early career teachers, or chosen from our open offer to all teachers because of their appropriate content.
Sessions have been planned with the Teaching Standards in mind, to ensure NQTs are equipped to meet them. These courses might also suit those teachers returning to teaching, changing age phase or overseas trained, who are looking to develop their subject knowledge.

Teaching grammar: practical and engaging approaches
Supporting delegates’ subject knowledge of the grammar elements of the National Curriculum, and suitable for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 practitioners, participants will leave with a renewed enthusiasm for grammar teaching and plenty of activities that can be used in class, rooted in children’s literature. £150 (£170) 17NQT/053P / 15th January 2018 / 9am - 4pm
Spelling: achieving successful outcomes through discrete and embedded teaching approaches
This course will strengthen delegates’ subject knowledge of the spelling programmes of study for Key Stage 2, including coverage of phonemic, morphological and etymological elements. Delegates will explore a variety of teaching approaches including games and activities, leaving armed with a range of activities for immediate classroom use. £150 (£170) 17NQT/057P / 12th March 2018 / 9am - 4pm
Providing effective challenge in maths through breadth and depth
All sessions run from 9am to 4pm £150 (£170) This explores how to move pupils through the programme of study ‘at broadly the same pace’ whilst providing challenge for all pupils. This course will support NQTs to demonstrate that they have ‘high expectations’ which
‘inspire, motivate and challenge’. It is based on one of our popular courses.
Making the last term count: addressing and identifying gaps in pupils' English and maths knowledge
All sessions run from 9am to 4pm £150 (£170) With the final term just around the corner, it is crucial teachers are in a position to ensure pupils are ready to meet the demands of the next year group. This course will support NQTs in how best to prioritise, and to prepare learners in the final term.

Key Stage 2 17NQT/060P / 27th March 2018
Broadening children’s language: teaching vocabulary to improve reading and writing
Enriching and extending children’s vocabulary opens doors to increasingly complex texts, supports reading to learn and reaps benefits across the curriculum. Delegates will develop strategies to decide which words to teach and why, designing programmes of instruction to support understanding and retention, embedding this across the curriculum. £150 (£170) 18NQT/005P / 3rd July 2018 / 9am - 4pm
The reasoning rich classroom
How do you teach children the skills to justify, connect and generalise in maths? How can you help pupils demonstrate their reasoning in simple and effective ways? This mathematics course has been adapted from one of our popular long-running courses. £150 (£170) Key Stage 1 18NQT/003P / 7th June 2018 / 9am - 4pm Key Stage 2 18NQT/004P / 14th June 2018 / 9am - 4pm

Closing the gaps in English and Mathematics: accelerating progress through successful differentiation, marking and feedback
All sessions run from 9am to 4pm £150 (£170) With the opportunity to reflect on pupils in their cohort, delegates will unpick and address aspects of reading, writing and maths that can often hold children back. The course looks at tried and tested methods of accelerating progress, deepens subject knowledge and explores practicalities of delivering a personalised curriculum.
