Food Waste: A Global Issue
Food waste, a global issue impacts the world socially, economically, environmentally, and politically.
Roughly 1/3(approx 1.3 billion tonnes) of the foodproduced in the world for human consumption everyyear, gets lost or wasted*
Per capita food losses and waste, at consumption and pre-consumptions stages, in different regions*
Losses at almost every stage of the food chain(Poor handling, distribution, storage and purchase/ consumption behavior) may be reduced by using appropriate packaging.
* Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations’ news report 2015

Factors Causing Food Spoilage
• Gas Barrier – Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide• Light Barrier – Visible, Ultraviolet• Moisture Barrier• Aroma and Flavor Barrier (chemical barrier)
Common spoilage terms
• Rancidity – Oxidation of unsaturated fats and oils,UV induced oxidation
• Stale – Moisture gain• Dehydrate – Moisture loss• Flavor loss or off-flavor-loss of aroma
In order to protect the product from failure within the desired shelf life, proper barrier properties are required for different products.

Anti-fog BOPP films: Extended shelf life (4 to 7 days)
The Mechanism of fogging & anti fogging
The droplets formed on the film's surface cause internal reflections of light and as a result fogginess develops.
When moisture condenses on the surface of anti fog film having very high surface energy, condensed moisture spreads out on the surface to form a layer. This layer doesn't cause internal reflections or refractions.
14
Anti-fog BOPP films: Extended shelf life (4 to 7 days)
FEATURES
• Excellent cold and hot fog properties/good optics
• High seal strength (600 - 1100 g/inch)/high hot tack
• Coefficient of friction (0.15 – 0.30)

APPLICATIONS
• Packaging for fresh cut vegetable, salad & meat
