Whileorientationcentersonclinicalcompetencyandacclimationtoanorganization,anurseresidencyprogram(NRP)focusesonprofessionaldevelopment,transitionintopractice,androlesocialization.Throughaseriesoflearningandworkexperiences,graduatenursestransitionintoleadersatthebedside.Animportantcurriculumobjectiveistoincorporateresearchbasedevidencetoimproveorimpactpatientoutcomes.Nurseresidentsaredividedintosmallcohortsoftheirpeerstoworkthroughcompletionofanevidencebasedpractice(EBP)project.TheprojectsaresupportedbyanEBPfacilitator,anexperienced,clinicallycompetentmaster’spreparednursewhocommitstoinvestinginthenurseresidents’professionaldevelopment.UsingTheIowaModelofEvidence-BasedPracticetoPromoteQualityCareasaguide,EBPFacilitatorscoachresidentsovera12monthperiod.CompletinganEBPprojectwithinthefirstyearofhireallowsthenurseresidenttoexperiencemakinganimpactonclinicalpracticeearlyintheircareer.ThisposterillustratesaNRPEBPproject-“TheVolunteerPartnersWalkingProgram.”
