ENVIRONMENTAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION AND POLLUTION AND

PROTECTIVE MEASURESPROTECTIVE MEASURES

I will be discussing….

Definition. Types Of Pollution. Causes. Effects. Measures.

Definition

Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause adverse change, in the form of killing of life, toxicity of environment , damage to ecosystem and aesthetics of our surrounding .

Pollution is everywhere.....

Types Of Pollution

Air Pollution.Water Pollution.Noise Pollution.Littering (spilling of oils in oceans)Soil contamination (by lead, heavy metals) Radioactive contamination.Thermal pollution.Visual Pollution.

Air Pollution…

Air pollution is contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere.

Sources Of Air Pollution

Household combustion devices.

Motor vehicles. Industrial facilities. Forest fires….

> Respiratory infections > Lung diseases > Skin allergies> Anxiety> Irritation to eyes , nose & throat.

Effects

WATER POLLUTION

<< Domestic sewage.<< Industrial wastewater.<< Agricultural wastewater.<< Construction site storm water.<<Urban runoff (storm water).

Protective Measures

Recycling of sewage water and treatment of water before discharging into water bodies.

Reducing the waste input

Re-utilization of waste

Removal of Pollutants using technologies.

NOISE POLLUTION

>> Household sources>>Social events>> Commercial and industrial activities>> Transportation

EFFECTS...

•Cardiovascular effects in humans• rise in blood pressure• an increase in stress and vasoconstriction• an increased incidence of coronary artery disease

MEASURES..

•Raising public awareness about the effect of noise pollution.• Distributing up-to-date information regarding noise pollution.• Strengthening laws and governmental efforts to control noise pollution.

LAND POLLUTION SOURCES

• Agricultural and forestry

• Drainage

• Deforestation

Effects: Depletion of fertile top soil, Extinction of flora etc.

Protective Measures

• Self Restrain: Judicious exploitation and use of natural resources

• Awareness

• Education & Legally

SOME OTHER PROTECTIVE MEASURES

Peoples’ participation

Life Styles and Attitudes: Green thinking, Waste not want not. Yeriscoping.

Enforcement of Various Acts: Water and Air Prevention and control act1974 and 1987, Environ. Protection act 1986

Why Protection ?

Pollution destroys all the components of environment that sustain life on earth.

Soil, we cultivate

Air, we breathe

Water, we drink

Food, we eat

To Conclude, I Quote

“NATURE HAS EVERY THING FOR EVERY BODY’S

NEED, BUT NOT ENOUGH FOR ONE MAN’S GREED”
