Findings: Student Survey

• 62% (n 57) students had personally encountered problems with teaching and learning situations which were specifically related to their needs as a disabled learner.

• 50% (n 28) said this was due to failure to supply lecture notes/ other materials in advance.

• A few dyslexic respondents found that some staff were 'suspicious’ that the condition did not exist or is not as limiting as put forward.

Objectives

– Establishing staff training needs

– Delivering dedicated training and staff development

– Developing management processes to support staff in developing an inclusive approach to teaching

– Creating an inclusive teaching website resource

Findings: Staff Survey

• More than 66% of (n 87) respondents review their curriculum regularly for inclusion, ask students for feedback and know how to respond to inappropriate language and behaviour

• Awareness of our university and key external resources was very low

• 87% would like an online resource

Agreement secured to amend Expectations of an Anglia Ruskin Academic to include specific mention of inclusive learning and teaching (used at recruitment and appraisal)

Appraisal scheme to be redeveloped during 2008-9 - inclusion and retention

Anglia Ruskin student retention strategy and supporting workshops to include issues of student diversity and inclusion
