Where we want to be!
What it is• A web-based toolkit to stimulate dialogue on
sustainability issues in the widest sense• Designed for use over the whole of the
planning/policy development process; to build sustainability objectively into plans/strategies
• Aligned with EU development objectives – useful to support funding bids
What it isn’t
• A panacea for all sustainability ills• A data repository• A requirement by EU/CLG for future
funding
The Toolkit
5 Tools:1.Characterise My City2.Develop an Integrated Approach3.Check the integrated approach of your
strategy or project4.Focus on deprived neighbourhoods5.Monitor progress
The testing phase• Testing runs from now until September• Newcastle one of 6 UK authorities
testing the tool• A national support group formed by
CLG, but led by members• Supported by the NICIS Institute
Our approach
