Gases
Gases are usually provided in metal cylinders.Optional breakseal glass flasks may be chosen for quantities (one litre or less). For gases mixture, please contact our Customer Service.
modern physico-chemical facilities are available from our Analytical Service. Our policy is to co-operate fully with customers to make high quality pro-ducts available. We are continually improving tech-niques in order to provide you with the highest quality products.
a - Analysis by Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance (NMR)
Our 400MHz spectrometer is used by our Analysis Department to study : Isotopic enrichment measurements. Determination of labelled positions. Determination of chemical structures. Conformation studies of organic com- pounds. Chemical purity.
b - Analysis by Mass Spectrometry
We use a quadripole type mass spec-trometer. It allows electron impact, desorption (electron impact or chemi-cal ionisation) or FAB method.Additional accessory equipment enables analysis of solids, liquids and gases. It also allows the determination of the isotopic enrichment of labelled com-pounds, as well as the assignment or confirmation of their structure.
c - LAL test The research of bacteria endotoxin can be realised with the “Limulus Amaebocyte Lysate” (L.A.L.) test if requested by the customer.
Nomenclature
The nomenclature system used in this catalogue is the same as that accepted by the American Chemical Society and most scientific journals. The isotopic labeling pattern is placed in brackets and follows the product to which it refers.Ex : D-Glucose (U-13C6)“U” denotes uniform labelling at all appropriate atoms in the molecule. The abreviation N-t-Boc stands for tert-Butoxycarbonyl. The abreviation FMOC stands for Fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl.
Isotopic enrichment & chemical purity
a - Isotopic Enrichment
The isotopic enrichment of our labelled compounds is as high as possible and is carefully checked by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry or infrared spectroscopy.
b - Chemical Purity
The chemical purity secured is 98%+.The chemical purity of all our labelled compounds is carefully checked by gas or High Pressure Liquid Chromatography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy, infrared or ultraviolet spectroscopy.
Quality control
Our purpose is to provide researchers with compounds of the highest standards of quality. To this end, EURISO-TOP® practises not only final product quality control but also quality control of raw materials. The most
Storage
Our products are non-radioactive and have a chemical stability comparable to their corresponding unlabelled com-pounds. Their storage is similar.
Handling
These products have nearly the same toxicity as unlabelled products and must be handled with care by trained personnel. To avoid isotopic contamination, of some products especially deuterated compound we handle them under inert atmosphere (nitrogen or argon).
Sterility-Pyrogenicity (S&P)
Some labelled compounds offered by EURISO-TOP® are S&P Tested. These products must be used under the sole responsibility of the purchaser.
Other Informations
Many of uniformly labelled amino acids, sugars and fatty acids are produced biosynthetically from various strains of Chlorella (blue-green algae).
The products are packaged according to their physical and chemical charac-teristics.We use the best available packaging materials to enable a simple and safe utilisation while preserving the quality of the products.Quality is carefully monitored during production and packaging, using instrumental analysis. We offer a large range of packaging options. We will try to accommodate special packaging request for a modest addi-tional fee. 04

Amino Acid MixturesThe cells are harvested and the lipids, pigments and carbohydrates are removed resulting in a mixture of about 95% free amino acids and approximately 5% unhydrolyzed protein. The typical amino acid content/profile is shown above under Cell Free Media — these materials are the algal amino acid mixture products (16AA).
Cell Free Media
EURISO-TOP® is pleased to offer seve-ral amino acid products for use in cell free systems. Cell free biosynthesis of proteins offers several advantages over the more traditional over-expression of proteins by cells. This method allows for the expression of proteins which may be toxic or prone to pro-teolytic degradation, as well as giving the researcher great flexibility in the production of stable isotope labeled proteins. Our amino acid mixes allow for the production of uniformly labeled proteins, while our individually labeled amino acids provide the opportunity for partial or custom labeling of specific residues. We offer both 16 amino acid mixtures (Algal Amino Acid Mixture) and 20 amino acid mixtures (“Cell Free” Amino Acid Mixture) in several labeling patterns.
Algal Products
Algal products are made by a proprie-tary process of growing algae in the presence of 13CO2, K15NO3, or D2O, depending upon the desired label. The products we offer reflect different processing levels of the material and their different applications.

Bio-Express-2000 for Insect Cells and the Baculovirus ExpressionVector System (BEVS)
Many interesting proteins cannot be expressed in their native state by bacte-rial systems. In particular, glycosylated proteins are difficult to label isoto-pically and study. CIL has developed media for use in insect cell growth and the Baculovirus Expression Vector System (BEVS). CIL’s Bio-Express-2000 has shown itself to be an effective medium for the growth and expression of heterologous proteins in Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf-9) cells using the BEVS. It is a fully- rich serum-free medium containing amino acids along with carbohydrates. This medium, like Bio-Express-1000 for bacterial expression systems, requi-res no supplementation. It is available labeled in both 15N and 13C/15N. However, the researcher should be aware that certain amino acids in the media, including cystine, are unlabeled. Bio-Express-2000 is available as a dry powder which will reconstitute to 1L. Unlabeled samples are also available for evaluation and optimization.
In recent years there has been an increase in the applications of stable isotopes in biomolecular NMR studies. If you require a specific compound not lis-ted in this section, please contact our Customer Service Department for assistance.
Products listed in this section inclu-de : Bio-Express Cell Growth Media ; and algal amino acid mixtures. Please refer to the Research Compounds sec-tion for our listing of Amino Acids, Minimal media Substrates, Buffers and Detergents.
Bio-Express-1000 for Bacterial Expression Systems
The advent of isotope labeling tech-niques coupled with multidimensional NMR approaches has led to an explo-sion of structural information in protein chemistry. In the 1990s, CIL’s Bio-Express-1000 Cell Growth Media ushered in a new generation of pos-sibilities by supplying bacterial cells with the labeled nutrients required for optimum growth and expression of proteins. Any combination of 13C, 15N and D labeling is available, giving the researcher maximum flexibility for experimental design. Bio-Express-1000, a rich medium, requiring no supplementation is sold as a sterile concentrate (10x), ready to be diluted and inoculated. 100mL of concentrate will produce approxi-mately 1L of medium. Each lot of Bio-Express-1000 is fully analyzed to monitor lot-to-lot variability. The lots
are tested for growth using different strains of bacteria. They are also ana-lyzed by HPLC for amino acid content and by GC/MS for isotopic enrich-ment. With these analytical data, lot-to-lot variations can be monitored and reported. Although differences are expected to be minimal, lot-to-lot variability is normal. 10mL samples (equivalent to 100mL of medium) of unlabeled medium are available.
Bio-Express-Min
Bio-Express-Min, a fortified minimal medium, is a less expensive alternative for growth and expression in bacterial systems. By providing some amount of essential nutrients along with substantial carbohydrates (4-5g/L), Bio-Express-Min delivers more than double the growth seen in traditional minimal media. Bio-Express-Min is delivered as sterile concentrate (10x) ready to be diluted and inoculated. No further augmentation of the media is normally necessary.
Bio-Express-1000 as a Spike
Our Bio-Express-1000 media may be used as a supplement to mini-mal media to decrease the time and expense involved in growing the lar-ger cultures needed for production of sufficient quantities of labeled protein. CIL has provided pricing for 10mL sample sizes of our Bio-Express-1000 products.

Packaging information
a - Cylinders :
Most isotopic gases are delivered in metallic cylinders complying with the European Standards. These cylinders become the property of the user and can be re-used under certain conditions.Weight, height & maximum pressure measures are given in the table below (approximate indications).
b - Breakseal glass flasks :
Breakseal glass (Pyrex or Silicon) flasks are used for adding a gas directly to a reaction by breaking the seal while the breakseal is connected to the reaction by tubing. They are used for many gases in small quantities, 10 mL to 1 L with a pig tail (tube Ø 12).
Gas Mixtures
EURISO-TOP® can make all gases mixtures, with different components and concentrations, if chemically compatible.
EURISO-TOP® uses gravimetric or volumetric methods depending on the type of the mixture and the precision requested by the customer ; generally EURISO-TOP® provides a mixture with a precision of 0.5 to 5%.
The volume tolerance of each gas will be less than 5% in the mixture. EURISO-TOP® can offer the analysis of the mixture by mass spectrometry.

Breath test substrates
Carbon-13 Breath tests constitute a new class of non-invasive diagnostic tests used in clinical medicine. They have been developed with the intention of simplifying traditional tests of metabolic functions The idea of diagnosing metabolic function by giving orally to patients a compound labelled with stable isotope (carbon-13) and collecting sample of their breath over a period of time is called “Breath Tests”.
Principle
Carbon-13 Breath tests have the common characteristic that the labelled substrate is given orally. The substrate bears a functional group in which a normally present 12C atom has been replaced by the stable isotope 13C (non radioactive). This functional group is cleaved enzymatically under specific circumstances, either during the absorption, or the gastro- intestinal transit, or the metabolisation of the absorbed substrate.
The key metabolic function is followed by measuring the increase of 13CO2 in the subject’s breath over a period of time.
Advantages
Carbon-13 Breath tests are a non invasive method which enable to measure gastro-intestinal, hepatological and meta-bolic functions directly in several physiological conditions.
Taking breath samples is a simple procedure
The use of 13C permits : - short term repeat of breath tests on the same
subject - the study of metabolic function in children and
during pregnancy
Labelled substrates
Several 13C-labelled substrates are highlighted hereafter to illustrate the applicability and utility of the C-13 Breath test. (The 13CO2 mixes with the body pool of CO2-HCO3 and is breathed out).
The exhalation of 13CO2 reflects the function we want to investigate.

13CO2 Calibration Standards13 C O 2 C A L I B R A T I O N S T A N D A R D S
We offer a set of three carbon dioxide (CO2) standards for use in Carbon-13 (13C) breath test analysis. Extensive use of 13C breath test analyses in clinical diagnostic applications has created a need for certified reference standards. This set of standards is designed to mimic 13CO2 levels in normal breath (Baseline Calibrant) and in two enriched samples (Mid-Level and High-Level Calibrants). Each cylinder is filled with 10 liters of air containing 5% CO2. These gas calibration standards are gravimetrically prepared in our laboratories. Differences in 13C enrichment (expressed in delta units) between the samples were determined in a multi-center interlaboratory study based on Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS) analyses.
CLM-3781 Baseline: Average Delta 13C vs. PDB from 10 L interlaboratory study. 50 L 5% CO2 in Air – Baseline Calibrant Gas with Delta value = -22.8 vs. PDB
CLM-3782 Mid-Level: 9.58 Delta units greater than Baseline. 10 L 5% CO2 in Air – mid-level Calibrant Gas at 50 L 9.58 Delta units above Baseline Calibrant Gas (CLm-3781) or Delta value = -13.22 vs. PDB
CLM-3783 High-Level: 15.5 Delta units greater than Baseline. 10 L 5% CO2 in Air – High-Level Calibrant Gas at 50 L 15.5 Delta units above Baseline Calibrant Gas (CLm-3781) or Delta value = -7.3 vs. PDB
