Team Goals

1. Examine the K-12 math course pathways as aligned to standards

2. Examine existing and potential on/off ramps for extended math students

3. Examine learner outcomes

Learner Outcomes Driving Our Math Work Extended math students:● Experience advanced math topics above grade-level● Demonstrate mastery of the learning standards● Demonstrate and articulate computational, conceptual, and

problem-solving skills● High school student data (e.g. AP exams) has shown that our

extended math students do exceptionally well in mathematics

History of Extended Math

Evolution of Extended Math

● History-MEGSSS (Math Enrichment for Gifted Secondary School Students)

● Washington University of St. Louis● Barrington used parts of the program in extended math● The name no longer applies to our Extended Math Program...●

Now simply called…Extended Math

Extended Math Curriculum Alignment:

● Extended Math is accelerated math, which exposes students to advanced content● Continue the use of “MEGSSS” resources… The Elements of Mathematics Foundations (EMF)● However, resources have been updated (teacher -led and online experience, aligned to standards)

○ Elementary, students are accelerated one year○ End of middle school, students are advanced two years

● The extended math curriculum has broadened and requires a roll-out● The pacing of the roll-out is based on student exposure to math content, vertical alignment, and the

one-to-world technology initiative.

*Note: Students will follow the same math pathway but will have updated EMF materials. This results in a broader experience in 6th-9th grades.

**Note: Students will remain in Extended Services unless ongoing interventions have proven ineffective and the teacher has shared ongoing communication with parents regarding a student’s exit (this includes ES math).
