WelcomeThe Eye of the Tiger football newsletter will be published by the FHS football staff 7 times each year during the months of December, January, February, March, April, May, and June-July (1 summer issue). It is our hope that the newsletter will provide a source of communication to players, parents, and fans of the Fishers High School football program. We want to acknowledge the accomplishments of individuals in our program, not only in football but also in other endeavors, and promote team activities as well. If you know someone who would like to be included on our newsletter mailing list, have that person send a request to rwimmer@hse.k12.in.us.

Coach Wimmer’s Comments “Servant Leadership” We are nearing the end of our 2015 Senior Leadership Meetings as we have just 1 final meeting left which
will take place next Wednesday Coach Jud has directed these meetings since we began them with each incoming
senior class, but I always kick them off with a presentation to our new seniors about what we are looking from our
senior leaders. We discuss a number of character traits for great leadership. One important trait that I think often
gets overlooked is being a servant to others. Last week 3 of our coaches – Coach Shelton, Coach Kelly, and Coach
Riordan – all contributed with a short presentation regarding their view of leadership and they all brought up
service and caring for others important traits of leadership. That is something we don’t often think of when we
think of leadership as we most often think that great leaders are supposed to tell others what to do. But a great
leader looks for opportunities to serve others to make them successful. Below is a great story of someone who
understood how his role as a servant to others was important to the team’s success. If leadership is influencing
others so they can be successful, then this story shows how any of us can provide leadership by serving others.
Charles Plumb was a Navy jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 missions, his plane was shot down by a surface-to-
air missile. He ejected and parachuted into the hands of the enemy where he spent 6 years in a communist
Vietnamese prison camp. He survived the ordeal and later traveled the country giving lectures on the lessons he
learned from his experiences.
One day while he and his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a gentleman from another table approached
and said, “Your Plumb! You flew fighter jets off the Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier! You were shot down!”
Surprised, Plumb asked, “How in the world did you know that?”

“I packed your parachute,” was the response. Plumb gasped in surprise and gratitude. The man pumped
his hand and said, “I guess it worked.”
Plumb assured him, “It sure did. If it hadn’t, I would not be here today.”
Plumb couldn’t sleep that night. He kept wondering what the man looked like so long ago on that aircraft
carrier in his Navy uniform: white hat, bib in the back and bell-bottom trousers. He wondered how many times he
had seen him - passed by him without saying hello or acknowledging him because, you see, he was a fighter pilot
and the other man was just a sailor. He thought about the number of hours the gentleman had worked on the
table in the bowels of the ship carefully weaving the shrouds and folding the silks of the parachutes of men he
didn’t even know. So Plumb began asking his audience when he continued his lectures, “Who is packing your
parachute?” We all need to be aware of those around us who provide us with the tools for success. Plumb began
thinking about all the people in his life who had provided many different kinds of parachutes he had needed: not
just the physical parachute provided by the man who had prepared it, but mental parachutes provided by his
instructors, emotional parachutes pro-vided by his friends and colleagues, and the spiritual parachutes from his
faith and meditations.
Sometimes we forget what is important and that others have a great hand in our success. Be sure to
recognize those around you who are helping you become successful. Take time to thank them and look for ways
you can pack someone else’s parachute so when they need it, they will be prepared. That is one of the marks of a
leader.
Tiger News 2015 Football Call-Out Meeting Set for May 5
The annual Call-out Meeting for the 2015 football season will be held on Tuesday, May 5, in the FHS Main Gym. This
meeting is for parents, players, and managers who plan to be a part of next year’s team, including incoming freshmen. The
evening will begin at 6:30 pm with registration and should conclude shortly around 8 pm.
During registration time there will be various tables with representatives to help you purchase cleats, girdles, receiver
gloves, linemen gloves, and other specialty items if desired. Representatives from our Gridiron Club will also be on-hand to
answer questions about how parents can get involved in our football booster club. Coaches will be available to answer
questions about the FHS Team Camp, the Bishop-Dullaghan Camps, and other football activities for the summer. When
registration is complete, Coach Wimmer will address the parents and players and discuss summer workout schedule, summer
camps, practice packets, and 2-a-day practice schedule for early August. If both player and parent cannot attend, hopefully at
least one member of the household can be on-hand to take part in the registration and receive the information that will be
passed out. Much of the information will be posted on our website following the meeting and a registration link will be made
available. However, we strongly prefer players and/or parents attend the meeting if possible.
This year we hope to have the registration link available so players and/or parents can pre-register before the
meeting. This will save time and could make the evening significantly shorter. Look for the e-mail from Coach Wimmer a
couple days before the meeting if you would like to take care of all registration before the meeting.
Final Senior Leadership Breakfast and Meeting Next Week The final Senior Leadership Breakfast and Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 6. This will be the 5
th meeting in
the series which began back in January. We have had excellent attendance from our seniors – nearly 100% each week. As with
the previous meetings, breakfast will be served at subsequent meetings beginning at 6:15 with the meeting to follow around
6:30. Coach John Jud is responsible for the content of these meetings with a kick-off presentation from Coach Wimmer in the
first meeting. In our 4th
meeting Coach Kelly, Coach Shelton, and Coach Riordan also addressed the team.
Thanks to our Gridiron Club who supplies the breakfasts for these meetings which have always been outstanding.
Thanks to Cathy Bowser who have organized parents for these breakfasts and thanks to all the parents who helped with the
breakfasts. They were great!

In addition to the jersey and shorts, players will receive their helmet, shoulder pads, mouthpiece, and locker. We will also have
multiple computers set up in the team room so players can create a Hudl account. Hudl is the company we use to load and view
game and practice video, playbooks, scouting reports, position manuals, etc. so players can access these items. We will also be
using text messaging to communicate to players using this account. Below are the dates and times players can pick up
equipment:

These have been worn by our freshmen teams the past couple of years; but as we replace our red varsity jerseys with new
ones this year, we will be taking these jerseys out of our Varsity to Freshmen rotation. We also have about 60 helmets we
have taken out of circulation. They have been cleaned up, inside pads removed, and will be sold for $50 complete with Fishers

APC Course Sign UpsAny athlete who wishes to take the Advanced Physical Conditioning (APC) class next year must enroll in the course
when guidance counselors begin signing students up for next year’s courses. Guidance counselors have begun this process.
This course is designed for those student-athletes who are serious about improving their overall strength, speed, explosive
power, and agility. Students perform resistance training in the weight room four days each week and work on explosive power,
foot quickness, agility, and speed development once each week. Many students who have taken this course have made
excellent physical improvement in these areas. It is especially important for multiple sport student-athletes who have little off-
season time to get in the weight room after school to develop strength. It is extremely important to the development of
athletes involved in football, wrestling, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, and track (particularly sprinters and field
event athletes), because explosive power, speed, agility, and strength are important ingredients for success in these sports.
Every
school that has a successful athletic program, particularly a successful football program, has a very high percentage of their
athletes enrolled in APC or a similar class that emphasizes strength training and speed development. Make it a priority to take
APC as one of your electives next year. You must first complete the two required P.E. course credits in order to enroll in APC.
FHS athletes may use football or another sport as 1 of their PE credits.
Spring Cycle Workouts Continue The off-season for Tiger Football continues. All football players who are not involved in a spring sport are expected
to attend our off-season strength and speed program. Workouts for football players who are not in APC class will be held each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Players who are in the APC class only need to attend 1 after-school session each week. We want Defensive Linemen and Offensive Skill players to attend Monday sessions after school from 3:15 – 4:30. Offensive Linemen and Defensive Skill players will attend Wednesday sessions after school. These sessions will consist of axillary lifts not done in class and position-specific drills to enhance your improvement as an athlete and as a football player for your position. Friday’s sessions for our players who are in APC class will be optional for extra strength work or can be used as a make-up if a Monday or Wednesday session is missed.
The entire strength and conditioning program is under the direction of FHS strength coach Randy Wheeler. We will also have members of our coaching staff available in the weight room on Monday and Wednesday to assist Coach Wheeler with the strength program and to conduct position-specific drills for those players enrolled in APC class.
Also as part of our Spring Cycle, we are holding SAQ and Skill School on Friday mornings on the turf at Tiger Reynolds Stadium. These sessions will begin at 6:20 am for the 6 consecutive Fridays after Spring Break. Sessions will end at 7:10. After a brief dynamic warm-up, coaches will conduct Speed, Agility, and Quickness drills followed by an opportunity for skill development. Linemen will continue to work with their coaches while skill position player drills will be player-led (IHSAA rules). Our expectation is that all players who are not in a spring sport should attend the SAQ and Skill School. Spring season athletes may use their own discretion in regard to attending these sessions based on your spring sport and competition schedule.

1-Day College Evaluation Camps If you will be a junior or senior next year, want to continue playing football in college, and believe you are good
enough to earn a football scholarship, you need to attend 3 or 4 college 1-day evaluation camps. These camps are very
reasonably priced and are designed to evaluate players, not necessarily develop your skills, which is why we go to the Bishop-
Dullaghan Camps. To get interest in order to be recruited, coaches want to visually see players and watch them in a series of
controlled drills to help them evaluate an athlete’s abilities. Below are several 1-day evaluation camps. Some are for seniors
only. Some are for Juniors and Seniors. Some may take sophomores as well. Contact the university directly at the contact
information listed or see Coach Wimmer to make arrangements to attend any of these evaluation camps.

Be Ready for the Summer Programs – Tiger Card Process
In order to begin any FHS athletic summer conditioning program (including football), you must have all FHS
required paperwork completed and on file in the athletic office. This paperwork includes the 2015-16 IHSAA Athletic
Physical form, Medical Information form, Emergency Contact Form, Drug Testing Consent Form, Concussion Form, and
other forms that can be picked up in the FHS athletic office or downloaded from the FHS athletic department website at
www.hwe.k12.in.us/fhs/athletics. Click on the Documents and Forms page to download the paperwork that needs to
be completed. When all paperwork is complete, bring all forms to the athletic office where you will be given a Tiger
Card which indicates to your coach that all paperwork has been turned in. At that time you will be allowed to
participate in FHS summer athletic activities (workouts, camps, practices, etc.). The summer program begins for
football at 6 am Monday, June 1 for varsity and JV players and at 8 am for incoming freshmen.

Bishop-Dullaghan Camp Info – Deposits and Registration Due
As has become an important part of the process of becoming a champion here at Fishers HS, we are making
preparations to attend the Bishop-Dullaghan football camps this summer. Varsity and Junior Varsity teams - made up of
incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors – will prepare to attend the B-D Team Camp where our players will not only focus
on fundamental development, but our own coaches will install our base offense and defense and have the opportunity to work
against other similar teams who will be at the camp. In previous years Ben Davis, Columbus East, Crown Point, Homestead, and
Westfield are just a few of the teams we have had a chance to work against. The B-D Team Camp will be held at Depauw
University in Greencastle.
We will send our Freshmen skill players (QBs, WRs, TEs, RBs, DBs, LBs) to the B-D Skills Camp where they will focus on
the development of fundamentals. Our incoming freshmen linemen will attend the B-D “Down and Dirty” Linemen Camp which
will also focus on the fundamentals of being an offensive and defensive lineman. Both of these camps will also be held at
Depauw University in Greencastle at the same time, so our freshmen will benefit by having all of our players who choose to go
at camp at the same time along with several coaches.
As we have done in the past, we will have scholarship money available from last year’s fundraising efforts for those
who would like to take advantage of that. The amount of that scholarship will be set in January. Attendance at these camps is
not mandatory, but we do believe they are highly beneficial to each individual player’s skill development and our team’s
progress. Below are the tentative camp dates we will be attending. We should have these dates finalized in our January
newsletter.

FHS Team Camp Dates Set The 2014 Fishers HS Football Team Camp (Grades 9-12) will take place Monday, July 20 – Thursday, July 23. This
camp is for all players in our HS program grades 9-12. There is no cost for this camp except for $25 required for the Fishers FB
Practice Shorts and Fishers FB Practice Jersey which are mandatory for the camp. These items obviously cost more than the
required $25, but we plan to make up the difference with the sale of our Tiger Value Card fundraiser. This camp will run from
4:30 – 7:30 pm daily (7:00 pm for incoming freshmen). This is a very important instructional opportunity for our players to
attend. We expect all players to make every effort to attend our team camp during July 20-23.

NCAA Scholarship Requirements and Clearinghouse
The NCAA requires student-athletes to reach minimum GPA and SAT / ACT test score standards in order to receive an athletic scholarship. These standards are on a sliding scale for Division I scholarship eligibility. The NCAA currently requires a high school student-athlete to have attained at least at 2.0 GPA in 16 core courses. Not all courses count as part of your core course curriculum. Core courses include college prep courses in language, math, science, and social studies. Your guidance counselor or coach can help you determine your core course GPA. Minimum test score requirements are on a sliding scale based on the core course GPA. For example, with a core course GPA of 2.00, an SAT score of 1010 or an ACT score of 86 is required. With a core course GPA of 3.00, only 620 is required on the SAT or a score of 52 on the ACT. Some colleges have GPA and/or test score minimum standards which are higher than those required by the NCAA. The NCAA does not use the writing portion of the SAT to determine your score. Only the reading and math scores are used for NCAA eligibility.
In 2016 (current juniors), the NCAA will require a 2.3 minimum GPA in 16 core courses. Another change will be that course grades cannot be upgraded by retaking a course during your senior year. There are also more restrictions regarding what online courses will be accepted by the NCAA. Most will not count toward NCAA eligibility. Check with your guidance counselor. Minimum SAT and ACT scores will remain the same in 2016 as they now are and as they are described above.
We strongly recommend that all players considering going to college take the SAT and/or the ACT no later than the
fall of your junior year. You must meet SAT or ACT test minimums before you can take an official visit as a student-athlete recruit. You may take these tests as many times as you wish with the best scores counting. It would be a good idea for sophomores to take the PSAT test in the fall to help prepare for the SAT.
See your guidance counselor to register for these tests. You may also register for the ACT at www.act.org or for the SAT at www.collegboard.com. Late registration (with additional fees) are also available if you miss the registration deadline. Check with your guidance counselor.
Any student-athlete who hopes to earn an athletic scholarship at any NCAA Division I or Division II institution must apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse. These forms should be completed at the beginning of your senior year. See your guidance counselor to receive and complete these forms or you can do it online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net .

10 THINGS EVERY FAMILY SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ACT & SAT 1. Neither the SAT nor the ACT is “easier” or “harder" than the other, but different types of students usually do MUCH
better on one than they do on the other. 2. Take both tests as early as possible, to find the right “FIT” and to give you time for tutoring and additional exams. 3. Choose the test you scored the highest on and then work to improve that score. 4. After you choose the “right” test, you must plan to take it multiple times. For football recruits you should have
multiple scores by October of your senior year. 5. Combining scores – You can combine a really high Math score on Test 1 and high Reading score on Test 2. 6. Generally speaking if you are:
a. Strong Math / Weak Reading = ACT b. Strong Reading / Weak Math = SAT
7. Scoring Differences a. ACT has no penalty for wrong answers, so don’t leave any questions blank. b. SAT has a ¼ point deduction for all wrong answers, so a “rule of thumb” is if you can narrow answers to a
50/50 choice – pick one. If you have no clue = skip it 8. Colleges will accept either the ACT or the SAT – They are more concerned with high scores! 9. ACT has a Science section, which really is more about using charts and graphs properly – SAT does not. 10. SAT has a stronger emphasis on vocabulary.

2015 Fishers Alumni Football Club “Tiger Challenge” Golf Outing Set The date for the 2015 Fishers Alumni Football Club “Tiger Challenge” Golf Outing will be Thursday, June 18, when we will return to River Glen Golf Club for a 2
nd time. Other details will be forthcoming. Last year our 2
nd Annual “Tiger Challenge”
was a great success as we attracted over 100 golfers, provided a $1,000 renewable scholarship in memory of Trent Van Hoosen for a graduating senior and former player, and raised an additional $7,200 to assist the athletic department in providing funds to purchase weight room equipment for the new 6,000 square foot weight room we will soon be completed next fall. Last year’s scholarship winner was Nick Edwards who is attending Indiana State University. This year’s Trent Van Hoosen Memorial Scholarship winner is Luka Skudrzik who has been a leader in the classroom and on the field, playing as an undersized offensive linemen who fought through some nagging injuries, showing courage and toughness to become our Most Valuable Linemen this past season. Our #1 goal will be to provide $3,000 worth of scholarship money for Luka and our two former scholarship winners to continue their education. After that goal is met, we hope to profit an additional $8,000-10,000 for the weight room project by increasing the number of golfers taking part as well as increasing the number of sponsors. Tax dollars will not be used to equip the weight room so the Fishers Alumni Football Club and the football program are working to do their part to help raise the $150,000 that is needed by the athletic department to complete this project.
To find out more, go to our FHS football website at www.hse.k12.in.us/fhs/athletics/football and click on Fishers Alumni Football Club. To sign up become a hole sponsor or to play in the event, you can go to www.FHStigerchallenge.com. We hope you will consider supporting this year’s event.

Volunteers Needed for Geist Half-Marathon and 5K Event
We have been asked if we could provide some volunteers to assist with the Geist Half-Marathon and 5K Runs on
Saturday, May 16. This event helps provide grants and scholarship opportunities to local schools and, because of the thousands
of participants who take part and the scope of the event, needs many local volunteers to make it successful. This is a great
opportunity for our football players and program to give back to the community. The last 3 years, we have been able to provide
about 20-30 football players who assisted local police with traffic and course security during the race. This year, we are looking
for about 25 volunteers from our football team to help the Fishers-Geist community to provide a safe, fun event which you can
play a role in making successful. You can also secure some community hours by helping out with a great community event.
Contact Coach Wimmer for more information or if you would like to be involved in this great event.

Skudrzik, Orris Honored at NFF Banquet On Saturday, April 18, Luka Skudrzik became the
ninth Fishers Tiger football player to be honored by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame with a Scholar-Athlete Award. 16 high school football players from the Central Indiana chapter were honored at the banquet which took place at the Indianapolis Colts Pavilion. Over 150 high schools are in the Central Indiana Chapter of the NFF so the award is a very prestigious one. In attendance at the banquet were members of the football staff Head Coach Rick Wimmer, assistants John Jud and Michael Kelly, and Fishers Athletic Director Jim Brown. Luka was presented with a huge trophy as well as being one of the few recipients who was presented with scholarship money. Luka will be graduating with a 4.26 GPA and excelled on the field being named All HCC and the 2014 Fishers Most Valuable Linemen. Luka will also receive the Trent VanHoosen Memorial Scholarship at this year's Tiger Challenge Golf Outing to be held June 18 at River Glen Golf Course.

Koby will be graduating from the University of Indianapolis with a 3.86 GPA and a degree in physical therapy and exercise science.
He was a 3 1/2 year starter for the Greyhounds serving as a captain during the 2014 season. He was one of just 3 Collegiate football players to be named Academic All-American in consecutive years and was named the 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
